—Selective Service headquar-
ters, continuing discussions
with state directors, was ex-
pected today to clarify the
draft status of registrants 26
and older before the end of
the week.
Tn a brief statement follow-
ing yesterday's session, Maj.
Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, Selec-
tive Service director, said
headquarters was concerned
oyer the large number of men
of all ages in Class 1-A.
With approximately 2,250,-
000 men in 1-A, Hershey said,*
“one of the questions Selective
Service must decide is wheth-
er it is wise to keep so many
men alerted—if one can use a
military term—in view of the
size of present calls.”
