The report that no national
hone show would be held in
Mew York this year has been
denied. A golden jubilee cele-
bration will be held this year.
Edmund Soussa is going to
retire from billiards because
he is too old for the game at
the age of 34.
Carl Hubbard, International
League umpire, weighs 265
pounds. After the baseball
season he plays football for
the Green Bay professional
Total entries for the United
Slates open golf champion-
ship will fall 100 or 200 short
of last year's 1,012. The final
matches will be played at the
North Shore Golf Club, Glen-
view, HI., June 8-10.

The University of North
Carolina tennis team, unde-
feated in team matches since
1929, came to New York the
other day to teach a bit of
tennis to the boys from New
York University. The south-
ern boys won 9 matches to 0.
The fiying tackle is barred
in football but is popular in
wrestling.
As soon as the month of May
rolls around the sports pro-
gram for the wanner months
gets under way. Hundreds of
thousands of men and women
are playing gold in all parts of
the country despite the fact
that reduced incomes have
compelled many to drop out of
dubs. Tennis is becoming in-
creasingly popular. The at-
tendance at baseball games is
excellent.
Lack of places to play in
cities and the cost of equip-
ment are given as the reason
why so many city boys are
turning away from baseball
and to other games.
Using state certified seed, 4-
H club boys of Bosque county
made yields of grain sorghums
25 per cent greater than the
average last year. Seed they
produced has been scattered
over the county by the county
agent who- reports 50 boys
again growing certified seed
crops on plots ranging from
one to 15 acres.

GALL-STONES
If you are past middle age,
fat, '‘tubby” and—sedentary,
you are a likely candidate for
gall-stones, and especially if
constipated and neglectful of
diet, bowels and exercise.
Then, if you eat too much.
I don’t see as many gall-
stone cases as I used to—not at
all; people are becoming
educated.
Not all gall-stones announce
themselves by the severe pain
of passing through the bile-
duct; 1 once did an autopsy on
an 80-year-old patient—a
woman—who bad carried over
seventy large stones in the gall-
bladder for years without
knowing she had them.
These concretions are caused
by long-retained-bile in the
gall-bladder; they form some-
what like sugar for

that is tittle used. Prevention
means—to keep the bile mov-
ing; exercise helps to do this.
A plain, nutritious diet, and
temperance in eating is anoth-
er aid. Plenty of green vege-
tables, the “leafy” sorts are of
use in the diet. Lettuce, spin-
ach, dandelion greens, well-
prepared cabbage, coleslaw
and such.
I am partial to the coarser
breads at least once daily. Peo-
ple have told me sweet milk
and eggs “make them bilious.”
I think they are mistaken; the
term “biliousness” is so old it
has whiskers—like all pious
old frauds, it means always
something else.
Beat remedy for threat of
all gall-stones, Phosphate of
Soda—I mean, best family
remedy; it is harmless. Should
