the noon hour and a reception
was held at the S.P.J.S.T. Hall
in Holland at 4:00 O'clock in the
afternoon. A wedding dance was
held that evening.
The bride's table was covered
with a hand made crochet cloth
and was centered with an ar
rangement of white gladioli. The
white tiered wedding cake was
topped with a miniature bride
and groom Orchid satin ribbon
and net outlined the tieres of the
cake. Tall white tapers burned in
crystal holders
Miss Georgia Naivar presided
at the guest book and registered
over 200 guests who attended the
reception and about 400 who at
tended the wedding dance.
The bride is a graduate of the
local high school and the bride
groom attended school in Rogers.
He is now employed i'n Waco.
They will make their home in
Rogers.

H. D. Council Begins
Years Work Jan. 15
The Williamson County Home
Demonstration Council held its
first meeting of the year on Jan.
5 in the County Agents office
Georgetown.
Group singing and prayer
opened the meeting which was
attended by seventeen officers
and members and five visitors
among whom was Miss Margaret
Bracker State Agent for ux
tension Service District 10
which is comprised of seventeen
Central Texas counties). William
son has nine clubs all of which
were represented at the meeting.
'Membership in the coimcil con
sists of the council officers two
representatives from each club
and the chairman of the seven
standing committees. Local
members are Mrs. Raymond
Wentrcek Mrs. Walter Lorenz
and Miss Luella Boldmg.
Each club will sponsor an ex
hibit or demonstration at a
council meeting during the year
An effort will be made to hold
a county-wide "Farm Festival or
Fun Day" durin'g the year : also
to invite the 1952 10th District
meetinir to come to Georgetown
The 1951 meeting is scheduled
at Burnet April ltf-18 and the
State meeting at College Station
in August.

Mrs. E. T. Jones was hostess
Monday afternoon to circle I of
the Women of the Presbyterian
church.
Mrs. J. G. Hoes circle chair
man opened the meeting with
prayer and Mrs. A. T. Freeman
gave "Jesus' Parting Prayer" as
the program for the afternoon.

Tax Paying Time
Is Here Again
January 15 is income tax pay-
ing date for some but January
is city school and county tax-
paying month for all who want
to escape the penalty of paying
Me. Penalties go into effect on
February 1.
The penalty for late payment
of city and school taxes is the
same. It is a graduated1 penalty
as (follows: for tho month of
February one per centum; for
the month of March 2 per
centum; for the month of April
3 per centum ; for the month of
May 4 per centum; for the
month of June 5 percentum for
the montn of July and later 8 per
cenitum.
School (taxes are payable to E.
C. Brune Sr. and city taxes are
payable to (Miss Cora Beckman.

Troy Dims Bartlett
Basketball Hopes
Troy High School girls dim-
med the hopes of the Bartleitt
girls for a district basketball
championship this season Tues-
day night when they handed
them their first defeat of the
season while Troy boys were
eliminating the Bartlett boys by
handing them their second de
feat.
The girls game was a 28-26
thriller with Patsy Williams high
for Troy with 14 points. Troy
boy pulled ahead in the last
period after a tight fight in the
first half to pile up a 38-20 vict
ory over the Bartetltl boys.
Six hundred basketbal fans
crowded into the Holland High
School gymn 'Friday night to
see the Bartlett Bulldogs fight
an uphill battle to finish with a
one point lead '43-42 over the
Holland Hornets. Nixon Overby
was the standout of the game.
Bartlett girls made it a com-
plete night with an easy 24-19
win over the Holland girls. Doro
thy Hill was high for Bartlett
With 10 points and Joan Whitlow
led Holland with seven.
In the season opener with Sal-
ado Barteltt girls won 17-13 and
Bartlett boys lost 34-21.
Friday night both boys and
girls teams meet Academy in
the Barteltt gym. Eight other
games remain on the schedule
for both teams as follows:

Dies At Lometa
George Thomas Carpenter
father of Mrs. F. O. Walton of
Bartlett was claimed by death
last Wednesday at his home at
Lometa. Funeral services were
held there Friday afternoon at
3:00 o'clock.
Mr. Carpenter iwas born in
Alabama on December 27 1869.
He was ni the shoe repair busi-
ness in Lometa for 35 years be-
fore his retirement in 194!3.
Survivors are Wis wife; four
daughters Mrs. Pat McKinney
of El Paso Mrs. Jesse Belt of
Lometa Miss Mildred Carpenter
of Lometa and Mrs. Walton of
Bartlett; two sons G. T. Jr. of
Dallas and Clyde of Nebraska.

ring ceremony performed Mon-
day evening at 8:15 o'clock in
the First Methodist Church in
Belton with the pastor Rev. J.
D. F. Williams reading the
ceremony in the presence of a
few immediate relatives.
The bride wore a shell ipink
wool jersey costume suit with
winter white felt hat and gloves
and a white orchid corsage.
The couple are graduates of
the Belton High School and she
has been employed at the Sewell
Hospital in Belton for several
years.
Mr. Garner is road commis-
sioner of the Belton precinct of
Bell County and is also engaged
in farming.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Williams
of Temple sister and brdther-in-law
of the bride groom were the
couples' attendants.
After a wedding trip the
couple will make their-home in
Belton.
Amigas Class
Entertained
Members of the Mamie Daniel
Amigas class of the Baptist
Church were entertained Thurs-
day evening January 4 in the
home of their teacher Miss
Pearl Joiner with Mrs. Louie
Hempel and Miss Myrtle Black-
bum as assisting hostesses.
Mrs. George Cagle gave the
devotional and Mrs. Horace
Keith offered prayer. Mrs. Lynn
Bartlett presided during the
business meeting and Mrs. Earl
Crouch had charge of the enter-
tainment during the social hour.
The refreshment table was
laid with a floor length white
tarleton cover and centered with
an unusual arrangement of green
leaves white cotton burrs and
white candles. Mrs. B. W. Grin-
stead presided at the tea service
and Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs.
Hempel assisted in the dining
room.

Two Local Elections
Scheduled This Year
Although 1951 is not an elect-
ion year those who pav their
poll taxes this month will have
at least two opportunities to use
them. There will be a city elect-
ion and a school election in April.
In the city election there will
be two aldermen to be elected
for two year terms. Aldermen
whoso terms expire this year are
H. M. Keith and B. F. Coons.
Mayor L. E. Moore City Secre-
tary Cora Beckman and Alder-
men Cy Young W. F. Blair and
J. E. Moore Jr. were elected
for two year terms last April and
will servo until 1952.
In city elections the final date
for filing as a candidate is 30
days before election day.
In the school election there will
be two trustees to be elected for
three year terms. Trustees whose
terms expire this year are Harry
Perkins and Wm. Daugherty Jr.
The terms of Alva Cating and
R. C. Ford expire in 1'952 and
the terms of C. F. Hill E. B
Ware and Aubrey Messer con-
tinue until 1953.
In school elections the final
date for filing as a candidate i's

Recent Bride
Mrs. Robert Stevens nee Ruby
Love Moore was honored with a
tea shower last Thursday even-
ing at the American Legion
Home with the ladies of the
Central Christian church as
hostesses.
Mrs. Clarence Seale greeted
the guests and Mrs. Stevens the
bride's mother Mrs. Milton
Moore mother of the bride
groom Mrs. Ned Bartlett and
Mrs. P. M Cox were in the re-
ceiving line.
Mrs. Marvin Stevens register-
ed the guests and Miss Kather-
ine Ramsey directed them into
the room where the gifts were
displayed. Misses Dorothy Hill
and Marlene Rentchler presided
over the gifts.
The tea table was 'covered with!
a white linen cloth and centered
with an arrangement of red car-
nations and fern in a crystal con-
tainer. Tall white tapers burned
in crystal holders on the table.
Potted poinsettas were used
throughout the rooms. Mrs.
Herbert Keller poured tea the
first hour and Mrs. George
Latham the second hour. Miss
Elizabeth Ramsey assisted in the
serving.
Miss Eileen sides-played piano
selections throughout the even-
ing. Others in the house party
were: Mrs. Vera Joyce Mrs. D.
K. Leatherman Mrs. Tom Fow-
ler and Mrs. M. E. Arnold.

Governor To Be
Inaugurated In
Simple Ceremony
Austin Jan. Ul A simple
"swearing-in ceremony" here
Jan. 16 will start Gov. Allan
Shivers on his first full term in
the state's highest oftfice.
The Governor will take the
oath of office at noon that day
on the front steps of the state
capitol. It will be administered
to both Shivers and Ben Ramsey
Lieutenant governor elect by J.
E. Hickman chief justic of the
supreme court. Both Shivers and
Ramsey will make brief inaugur-
al addresses.
Tho only state function to be
held in connection with the in-
auguration is a reception at 7
p. m. in the capitol rotunda
where the public will have a
chance to meet Shivers Ramsey
and other state officials.
No inauguration invitations
are being sent out as a result of
the Governor's request for a sim-
ple ceremony.
Because of the international
situation Governon Shivers ask-
ed the Citizens' Inaugural Com-
mittee to abandon plans cfor the
usual elaborate festivities norm-
ally scheduled for a Governor's
inauguration.
Monday Last Day
To Participate In
Tide Of Toys
Monday is the last day that
local citizens Will have an op-
portunity to get on the Tide of
Toys program sponsored locally
by the American Legion. Toys
must be shipped Tuesday.
Wilson Franz post adjutant
will accept toysi through Mon-
day for shipment overseas to
children who did not receive any
toys for Christmas. Many of
them have never received any
toys for Christmas.
Children were admitted to the
Alamo Theatre on Jan. 3 and 4 on
presentation of a toy for the
Tide of Toys and local schools
have tbeen cooperating in the
program.

Wednesday Club
Guest Speaker
Mayor Leslie E. Moore was
guest speaker at a meeting of
the Woman's Wedensday Club
January 3 in the home of Mrs.
W. L. Stokes Sr. At this time
Mr. Moore discussed "Your
Government Begins at Home"
and stressed the fact that the
family cooperation as a unit is
the basis of good oitizinsihip and
good government. He also ex-
plained in detail Texas' home-
stead laws.
Decorations in the living room
were (potted poinsettias and red
berries. The tea table was laid
with a linen and lace cloth and
centered with a giant red candle
encircled with greenery. The buf-
fet held a similar arrangement.
