Dear Editor,
1 would like to give Dublin Dr
Pepper a big'THANK YOU!
This year’s 11 Oth birthday cele-
bration was fantastic. I commend
Jeff Pendleton and his crew for
making it a fun day for kids and
adults alike.
The Backyard Circus was a great
attraction not only for the partici-
pants but also for the spectators.
The variety of events in the carnival
area made it easy to keep children of
all ages entertained I also would
like to thank all the organizations
that maimed the booths. I appreci-
ate all the time and effort it took for
those people to help with the activi-
ties
All the volunteers at the event
were cheerful and more than willing
to lend a helping hand wherever
needed. Mark Kloster has a good
group of employees who are always
smiling, even when they are
exhausted.
I feel that (he placement of the
arts and crafts booths was a great
choice. It was nice to browse
throughout the alleyway and not
have to worry about the kids getting
out into traffic. With some effort by
the businesses and the city, that
could be a wonderful exhibition
spot.
Also, thanks to The Art Gallery
for hosting and displaying the art
and photography contest. If you
didn’t stop by The Art Gallery, then
you missed a lot of talent that
resides right here in Dublin.
Again, thank you to everyone
who helped with the celebration. It
makes me proud to be from Dublin
- make that Dr Pepper, Texas.

He also shared his battle with

business before an operation made
it impossible for him to continue.
He then decided to become a watch
repairman. It was while pursuing
that endeavor that he met and

also asked to provide two members
for the committee.

The Dublin Little League players
began a fund raising project by
selling "Drix", a multi-purpose
cleaner. Lynn Bolton, Little
League president, noted "This will
be our major fund raising project
for the spring and 12 teams will
benefit from this activity." A
committee of local Little League
mothers, chaired by Pat Harrell,
agreed to help with organization.
What a party!
What a crowd we had in Dublui during Dr Pepper days. I am sure every-
one had a good time. Pat Leatherwood said it best when he said “There is
a little of something for everyone to enjoy.” 1 talked to a lot of people
Saturday. Some as far away as Nebraska, and each of them said we had a
wonderful small town and that we should be proud of things that are hap-
pening here. 1 am also glad to know what people from other places think of
us and our city. A large crowd was in the park for the activities there as well
as the high school for the reunion. So if you did not have a good time, you
must not have been there.
“Tuesday Night Under the Stars” was a huge success. Gene Williams
and crew also has a good following.
Hopefully the swimming pool is open by today. Jimmy and his men
along with Mr. Rutledge and his crew have put in some hard hours trying to
rewire and get the pool ready.
Monday night’s council was short - only two items on the agenda. We
did have a public hearing before our council meeting. Each council person
is assigned to a committee. 1 will list them by committee and ward.
Slreel/Sewer/Water: Jack Thompson - chairman, ward 3; Sam Lamkin,
ward 4; Tommy Tuck, ward 1, and Pete Cortez, ward 3. Finance: Paul
Bradberry - chairman, ward 2; Gary Waldrep, ward 4; Tommy Tuck, ward

Procedures established by Con-
gress for flood control dictate that
Proctor Lake will be held at "no
more than conservation level of
1162 feet."
Water stored in Proctor above
that elevation will be released to
regain storage space.
As of Tuesday, lake elevation
was 1162.56 feet.
Gordon Wells of Fort Worth,
district engineer with the Corps of
Engineers, told U.S. Congressman
Charles Stenholm that the plan
approved by Congress for flood,
control purposes requires that
stored floodwater be released as
soon as downstream channel flows
permit.
The releases, according to Wells,
are intended to minimize down-
stream bank erosion and to prevent
flooding outside of easement lands.
"Proctor Lake...releases are coor-
dinated with a system of nine
Corps projects and three Brazos
River Authority projects located in
the Brazos River Basin to obtain
basin-wide benefits," Wells said.
"Of these nine Corps projects, five
(including Proctor) are located
within the Little River Basin."
The controlled releases are made
at established rates of channel ca-
pacity of 2,000 cubic feet per
second (cfs) for the Leon River and
10,000 cfs for the Little River, he
explained.
Water stored below elevation
1162 feet is contracted ;fof - by
BRA and ie generally only raioasdd
at their request, he said.
Stenholm contacted the Corps of
Engineers after officials of cities
which buy water from Lake Proctor
through the Upper Leon River
Municipal Water District ques-
tioned why lake water was being
released.
The lake level dropped to 1142
last October and ULRMWD cities
were forced to ration water.
