Report cards will be issued
today. Eligibility for activities is
tied to these marks. Grades will
be reassessed at progress report
time, October 21. Any students
needing tutoring to improve
class performance should talk to
teachers and set up a time for the
extra help. Tutoring for all
subjects on all grade levels is
available. Also, feel free to
contact our campus office at
445-2555.
Mr. Grimland has been
collecting benchmark results
from all teachers. Results from
the evaluation made at the end of
first three week period and those
from the recently given six
weeks' benchmark will be
examined closely as Mr.
Grimland hands out Lions'
Bucks for those people
achieving ascending levels of
success. The point of having the
regular assessments is to chart
students' progress, locate weak
areas, and emphasize to students
that putting maximum effort into
testing all along the way is
important.
Football season and the time
of pep rallies are moving along
quickly. We are already half
way through the season. Coach
Tate reported that the girls are
already working on conditioning
school pep rally, a movie,
"Spirit Shakers," hot dogs, a
walk to Memorial Stadium,
participation in pre-game
activities, and the football
game.
In order to attend, parents
must complete the permission
slip, and students should return
it to their homeroom teacher.

All grade levels have done the
STAR testing in the last couple
of weeks. This is a vocabulary
based test that' measures each
student's individual reading
level. Students are tested at the
beginning of the year, along
about the middle and again at the
end of the year. These scores are
compared to keep track of
student progress.
Students in 7th grade are
tackling a wide variety of tasks
in their different subject areas.
In math, Mr. Ivie has been
teaching skills in finding the
greatest common factor in
working with numbers, problem
solving, and working on the
Fibonacci sequence which is
finding the next number in a
sequencing pattern.
Science classes in 7th grade
have been researching planets.
Mrs. Hickman commented that
having the laptops to use for the
search for information has been
a wonderful tool. In the pre-AP
class, students have been
working on solving the
hypothetical situation of
surviving a crash on the moon.
Many computer skills have
beenincorporated into these
lessons.
Mrs. Swanson's language arts
classes continue to work on
writing skills as they begin
preparing for the TAKS writing
in the spring. This class will
also be required to edit some
short answer questions and have
started to look at how to
recognize errors and correct
those as well.
The first work for the
language arts portfolios has been
loaded on computers. Mrs.
Swanson said that each six
weeks period a body of work
will be added' to the portfolio.
These 7th graders are also
combining computer skills with
their grammar.
The Native American tribes
of Comanche and Cato have
been compared jn Texas history
recently. Mrs. Heaton's classes
have discussed the Comanche
tribe as nomadic and constantly
in search of water while the Cato
Indians were remained
stationary near a good water
supply and farmed. Much of
this research was done online.
The explorers in fexas will be
next on the agenda for these 7th
grade students.
