Dec. 8-12, 2003 Abilene's Center for Contemporary Arts
presents the completed production, Texas Myths and
Legends, a traveling art exhibit, in Dublin's K.P. and Rotary
Building (old Furniture Mart building).
The exhibit features 12 life -sized figures representing men
and women of West Texas from 1850 to 1920. Artist Patty
Rae Wellborn depicts the legend of the bluebonnet as told by
a Comanche woman. Local artists Donna Long, Terry Wolfe,
Martha Kiel, Ginger Womack, Linda Murray, Catherine
Sandell, Tony Brown, and Tom Dunn created the figures to
tell the stories of gamblers/ outlaws, Buffalo soldiers, ranch-
ers, farmers/sodbusters and oilmen/ wildcatters. Each of the
historic and legendary figures represented tell their stories
using a sensor installed in the base of the figure using MP3
players. The project combines the artists' representation of the
historical figure with a strong educational component.
Key sponsors include the Dublin Chamber of Commerce,
F&F Floor Superstore, Callaway Ropes, Organic Residual
Reclamation LLC, Bradberry's and Dublin Rotary Club.

PAS Charter school completes service learning trip
Paradigm Accelerated School recently invested in the lives
of other people through a week long service learning trip to
Farmington, NM; Silverton, CO; Carlsbad, NM; and Fort
Davis, TX.
PAS students worked two days at the Navajo Mission
School in Farmington, NM by repairing playground equip-
ment, clearing brush, pulling weeds, painting buildings and
repairing windows. PAS students applied the character trait
availability as they gave of themselves to repair the Navajo
■Mission School.
PAS students interacted with Navajo youth and learned
about Navajo history from lectures and visiting Native
American ruins. PAS students learned about geology and
geography by climbing metamorphic rock formations in the
Bisti Wilderness, viewing mountain terrain from the Silver
Gauge Railroad traveling between Durango and Silverton,
CO., and touring the Big Room Tour at Carlsbad Caverns.
McDonald Observatory in West Texas was included on the
trip; students viewed constellations, the moon and Mars
through high-powered telescopes.
PAS took time for recreation in an all-night event with
bowling and games at Diamond Lanes in Odessa, TX. The
trip was made possible through volunteer sponsors: Deana
Crumal, Lydia & Brian Seals, and Kay Stroope.
