Woman's Wednesday Club
Opening
The Women's Wednesday
Club of Bartlett opened for the
season on Wednesday afternoon
with a reception at Miss Cron-
in's studio at which time a pro-
gram in keeping with Federa-
tion Day was featured. Mrs. Ro-
binson of Waco and Mrs. Mag-
gie Barry of College Station
were the honor guests and
speakers for the occasion.
Rains Sunday Night End Long
Drought
The first general rain in sev-
eral months fell over Central
Texas late Sunday reaching
Bell County shortly after dark.
Exposition Opens Oct. lth
The editor has the honor of
being selected as one of the
honorary vice-presidents of the
Texas State 'Exposition to be
held at Austin October 4th to
8th inclusive.
Former Bartlett Boy Becomes
H. S. Teacher
Major Hardin son of E. L.
Hardin formerly of Bartlett
now living at Georgetown was
recently appointed as teacher of
social Science in the Desdemon-
ia High School. The friends of
Major Hardin will remember
him as a splendid athlete on
the Bartlett High School foot-
ball and baseball teams.
Cotton Receipts
The cotton receipts for Bart-
lett the past week have fallen
off on account of the recent
pickers. However up to date
rains and the scarcity of cotton
there have been 7124 bales
marketed. Prevailing price 19c
to 20lc.
Former Bartlett Girl Wedded
Wedding bells galore have
been ringing in Robstown for
the past few weeks this time
announcing the marriage of
Grafton Baker and Miss Rosa-
lind Cowart Saturday evening
Sept. 10.
returned to Austin Saturday
where they resumed their stu-
dies at the University of Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hairs-
ton of Houston were here Sun-
day on a visit to his parents
Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hairston.
Miss Mattie Rowntree left
Saturday for Rule Texas to re-
sume her duties as teacher in
the school at that place.
Will Laughlin went to Ft.
Worth Sunday to take his par-
ents Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Laugh
lin to visit.
Miss Lucile Meyers left Fri-
day for Waco to enter Baylor
University for the coming term.
Francis Czarowitz left Sun-
day for Georgetown to enter
Southwestern University.
Mr. and Mrs. I. Gold Mr. and
Mrs. Philip Wiederspahn and
Max Neuman were among those
who saw the circus in Temple
last Thursday.
L. Havelka has purchased the
Mesdames E. M. Wilson and
W. W. Walton were Austin vis-
itors Friday.
Mrs. H. D. Bryant and Mrs.
T). ID. Bartlett were Temple vis-
itors Wednesday.

located west of town on the
Donahue. Mr. Jones became
owner of Mr. Havelka's farm
near Alligator in the exchange.
Mrs. H. A. Breihan and
daughtei Miss Olga Breihan

to Industry Texas last Friday
on account of the death of a
nephew of Mrs. Breihan and
Mrs. Raeke.
Stanton Allen was in George
town Sunday to visit his good
friend Hon. D. W. Wilcox who
had ibeen seriously ill for sev-
eral days.
Dr. T. B. Benson and son T.
B. Jr. were in San Antonio
Sunday to see Mrs. Benson who
is there for the benefits of her
health and is somewhat improved.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stefka and
Laneta of Austin spent the
week-end hero with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Donoll Malone
and children of Temple Mrs.
Bill Kelly of Bryan and Mrs.
Mollie Wickstrom of Thrall
were guests here last Wednes-
day and Thursday with Mr. and
Mrs. Pat Malone.
Mrs. Ed Hruska was a visitor
in San Antonio last week. Mr.
Hruska and Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Volney Jr. visited there Sun
day and she accompanied them
home.
Mrs. B. A. Dreibrodt of San
Antonio spent the week-end
with Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Linde-
mann. She was enroute home
after a visit in 111. Minn. and
Wisconsin.
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Muehl-
hause spent the week-end in
Dallas with Mr. and Mrs. Ches-
ter Haschke and baby.
