Christmas Greetings Kuwait
Dear Dublin,
Greetings from Camp Arifjan,
Kuwait! Christmas is almost here as
my unit begins the second half of our
tour in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom (OIF). Like Thanksgiving,
Christmas will be another day of
missions and planning for us. The
most notable difference in Christmas
day will be the lunch meal at the
"chow hall" when the officers will
serve the enlisted soldiers as is our
tradition on holidays.
I look forward to Christmas
because it means I'm getting closer
to home and the people I love most.
Because we work 24/7 here, one day
looks like another as soldiers rotate
through their shifts. On Christmas
day and night, we will have our
soldiers on the most dangerous roads
in the world trying to avoid the
"traps" of a failing insurgency to
deliver supplies and equipment in
Iraq. Some of our soldiers will be
resting for the next mission and
some will be wotking on equipment
while others post guard; all will have
thoughts of home. It has been my
pleasure to work with some of the
finest sons and daughters of
America; however, the holidays are
rough on everyone here. What holds
us together as a force is the
'camaraderie that soldiers share
during hard times; after all, we're in
this together and we depend on each
other. Depression is something
every soldier battles with from time
to time; so, please keep them in your
Major Daniel Thiebaud
prayers this holiday season.
On a different note, things are
going surprisingly well. I just
receivecT my copies of last month's
sermons fiom Ridge Adams and
will look forward to listening to the
Word delivered from my pastor and
friend. 1 wouldn't survive without the
many folks who pray for me anjj my
family daily. How awesome to serve
a God who binds us together no
matter where we are in the world.
For those of you wondering what
you can do to support our troops, go
to www.anysoldier.com and take a
look at the ways you can get
involved. My prayer for you all is
that you might know the peace of
Christ this Christmas Season. See ya
in the Spring!
Held by Jesus,
Major Daniel Thiebaud
The library will hold an open
house on Tuesday, December 18
fiom 5-7 PM. Please make a special
effort to drop by after work, on the
way to a ball game or other fimction,
or just come out especially to visit
tire library.
Library staff and FOL are already
planning the refreshments to be
prepared, so a bountiful table will be
available to greet guests! This will
give everyone a chance to come and
see what a wonderful facility we
have and what an incredible
selection of materials are available t<
readers; however, Patterson has
several books drat "stand alone" for
those who don't want to get involved
in a series. Lifeguard is a very
interesting read widi very last paced
action. Honeymoon tells the story of
a woman who lives a double life and
what price she finally pays for that.
Beach Road's story is told through
die voice of a murder victim through
flashbacks of what led to his demise.
Patterson draws die reader into the
story as the victim's brother searches
for the murder.
Kate Wilhelm is another
extremely interesting characters, put
them into intriguing plot lines, and
gives the stoiy enough quirks to
make readers understand these are
everyday, less than perfect
characters eveiy bit as flawed as we
are! Her latest offering is A
Wronglitl Death, which I found very
interesting.
Each month Courtney Kincaid
creates hi wonderful calendar with
library happenings that includes
some tidbits from history as well.
Stop by the library and pick one up!
