Expansion Planned
For Scout Program
Plans are now in the making
for a nation-wide expansion pro-
gram in Scouting organizations
due to the rising rate of juve-
nile delinquency.
At present according to re-
ports released by the National
council the Boy Scouts of Amer-
ica there are over 1200000 de-
linquent youths in the United
State?. For the legal action em-
ployed in prosecuting these
youngsters alone 580 per child
must be spent every year by the
government.
Working on the theory that
"an ounce of prevention is
worth more than a pound of
cure" the Capitol Area Council
which is comnosed of 15 coun-
ties including Williamson is in
itiating a campaign in which
they hope to raise $100000.00.
This is less than $2.00 per boy.
Last yeaivover 12000 Scouts in
this area received benefits from
this council and officials pre-
dict that they will serve approx-
imately 25000 in 1954.
Dr. George Fowler William-
son County finance chairman
states that "there is a dire need
for leadership in this work."
"Volunteers must carry the
responsibility of scouting and
aid in giving the present-day
youth a better tomorrow" he
concluded.
The local drive will begin with
a kick-off breakfast October 13.

Rings Selected
Bv Future Seniors
(From B.H.S. Bulldog)
The Juniors got a glimpse in-
to the future along with es-
tablishing th? conclusion that
"the end is not too far away" on
Wednesday the second day of
school when they had the priv-
ilege of ordering their class
rings. This event took p3ack
when the salesman came by the
school and took the names
finger sizes initials and other
information needed. A few days
thereafter the deposits were col
lected and sent to teh company.
The majority of the class
chose a ring with a blue stone
but a few preferred the solid
gold ring.' Both styles are very
pretty and the Juniors are al-
ready anticipating their arrival.
