Ennis Public Theatre’s An-
nual Membership Party and
Ennie Awards were held Aug. 8
at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Members and actors gathered for
a dinner of pulled pork and trim-
mings arranged by board mem-
ber, Betty Glaspy. Ennie Award
winners were announced: Best
Supporting Actress (Play) - Betsy
Karako; Best Supporting Actor
(Play) - Olon McClendon; Best
Supporting Actress (Musical) -
Darlene Pleiner; Best Actress
(Play) - Amanda Canady; Best
Actor (Play) - Rich Raymond;
Best Actress (Musical) - Deborah
Corber and Jenny Vidrine; Best
Performance - Charlene Snod-
grass; Best Show - The Miracle
Worker.
After the awards presentation,
board members lead a discus-
sion and question and answer
session about the future of
Ennis Public Theatre. The board
is working to make the best pos-
sible decisions for Ennis Public
Theatre by looking at compara-
ble theatres and attending work-
shops to gain insight into how to
ensure the longevity and growth
of the theatre.
A survey is being setup on the
theatre’s website for audi-
ence/member/actor input to be
certain the needs of the commu-
nity are being met. Changes al-
ready in the works include a new
season, consisting of five main
shows and two optional youth
shows, which will run from Jan-
uary to December.
The length of each show’s run
will be shortened to two week-
ends and a matinee performance
will be added to the first week-
end. The 2014 season line up will
be announced in November and
season tickets will go on sale.
Many members at the meeting
were excited to hear that patrons
will have the option of reserving
specific seats next season. Al-
though there are several physi-
cal changes being made at the
theatre such as new seats and
lighting, the location will remain
the same. If in the future, a more
accessible venue is available, the
board will look into it. The Ennis
Public Theatre K.I.D.S. will be
presenting The Best Christmas
Pageant Ever this December. Au-
ditions are slated for Aug. 31 at
10 a.m. with callbacks on Sept. 1
at 2 p.m.
There are multiple roles avail-
able for children and adults of
all ages. K.I.D.S. classes will also
begin the week of Sept. 9. Every-
one in attendance had a great
time of eating and fellowship
with theatre supporters! For
