Rollover wreck injures 17-year-old Celebrations
Phil Banker
phil@ennisdailynews.com\
Details are scarce regarding a
Friday night car rollover that
ended with two victims, at least
one of which a 17-year-old female,
seriously injured.
Ennis police officer Sherman
Swafford assisted a number of Wax-
ahachie police units who responded
to a rollover accident on U.S. 287 just
east of Reagor Springs.
Waxahachie police records
show officers were dispatched to
the scene shortly before 11 p.m.
Friday night. According to officers
on the scene, the vehicle was head-
ing east towards Ennis on U.S. 287
when it, for reasons undisclosed in
the report, flipped over and ejected
two passengers into the nearby
ditch.
At least one of the ejected pas-
sengers was taken to a nearby hos-
pital by helicopter. Their
conditions are unknown as of
press time.

Ombudsmen
needed
The North Central
Texas Council of Gov-
ernments’ Area Agency
on Aging Ombudsman
Program has immediate
need for warm-hearted
volunteers to help resi-
dents of nursing and as-
sisted living facilities in
Corsicana, Kerens and
Ennis. Ombudsmen ad-
vocate for residents’
rights including, but not
limited to, dependable
and consistent care and
an environment that pro-
motes the residents’ dig-
nity, self-determination,
and communication.
Volunteer Ombuds-
men also receive and in-
vestigate complaints
made by, or on behalf of,
residents or their fami-
lies. Volunteer Ombuds-
men serve as advocates
for all residents, connect-
ing them to their broader
communities, affirming
their rights, and assist-
ing them in resolving
concerns.
No prior experience is
required to serve as a vol-
unteer ombudsman, but
volunteers must be at
least 18 years of age and
complete a free training
course that consists of
both classroom study
and training at local
nursing homes, lasting
up to 34 contact hours.
After training, volun-
teers serve an intern-
ship, working two hours
per week in their as-
signed facility.
