HURST—Had a note from
Evelyn Bolton. She sent some
little items she thought you
might enjoy. Stop me if you
have heard this one: “I don’t
exercise at all. If God had
meant for us to touch our toes,
He would have put them on
our knees.” Good to hear from
Evelyn.
OFFICE—also heard from
Leveta Mullins, Mrs. Ellis Lilly
and Mrs. Z.N. McJohnston.
They are all okay. So is
Carmelita Kaser. She loves to
get the news from here, the
good and not so good. She
says she has fond memories.
Keep reading, Carmelita, we
do appreciate you.
NEW MEXICO—Had a
note from Ada Gorton. She
says she enjoys keeping up
with the events and people in
her hometown area.
{Thanks,
Ada, we are dedicated to

Businessmen’s Club on some of the benefits their
organization has to offer.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Lets get
ready for - what you say?
Frontier Days are just around the corner. July 2 on the
square downtown Timpson will be the place to be. Get your
pets ready and bring them to the pet show. Be it dog, cat,
horse, snake, rabbit, fish, bird or pig and show them off. We
will also have a prize for shortest tail, longest tail, most spots
and costumed. Every child who brings a pet will get a prize
and we have some really good prizes for everyone who wins.
For information and to register ahead of time call me at
254-3089. If I’m not home leave your name and number and
I’ll get back to you.
See you there, Marsha Tomlinson.
Visiting from Tennessee this past week was Jerre Williams,
right, kinfolk of Edward (Shep) Shephard of Timpson.
Jerre came by the office and visited with us a while. He
comes every year for a visit and we all look forward to
seeing him. He says the Shepherds treated him like a
king during his visit. Photo by Florence Reeh

Letter
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Dear Fellow Veterans and
Families:
I am happy to report that the
House took quick action and
passed the newly created Mili-
tary Quality of Life and Veterans
Affairs Appropriation. HR 2528
passed by a 228-196 vote. The
legislation provides an increase
of $ 1 billion over last year’s fund-
ing for veterans’ healthcare. It
does not include the proposed
$250 enrollment fee or any in-
crease in prescription co-pays.
It also eliminates the proposed
cut for VA nursing home care.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars
lobbied hard to defeat the co-pay

increase, enrollment fee and
nursing home funding cuts.
The $1 billion increase falls far
short of the $3.5 billion increase
our organization feels is
needed to care for our nations
veterans now and in the future.
The Senate is expected to work
on their version of the bill when
they return next week. It is ex-
pected that their bill will include
similar funding levels for VA
health care. I encourage you to
let our representatives know
how you feel about Veterans
Health Care. They deserve only
the best for defending the free-
doms we enjoy today.
