WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURES ?
San Augustine
Church of Christ
In Hebrews 13:4 the
Bible says, “Marriage
should be honored by all,
and the marriage bed kept
pure, for God will
judge the adul-
terer and all the
sexually im-
moral.” This
passage teaches
Ithat marriage is
an honorable relationship. It
is a relationship with which
God has blessed the human
race. It is God’s honorable
way for a man and a woman
to live together as a family.
It is God’s honorable way
for husband and wife to en-
joy the physical intimacy
that God intended within
marriage. It is God’s hon-
orable way for children to
be brought into the world.
By virtue of the fact that
marriage is from God it is
holy, right, and good. There
is nothing dirty or embar-
rassing about marriage.
One of the most joyful
times in life is attending a
wedding where man and
woman pledge themselves to
love one another as husband
and wife for life. Another
joyful occasion is when
older couples celebrate their
fiftieth or seventy-fifth wed-
ding anniversary. People are
the happiest who enjoy a
loving, faithful relationship
with their spouse. A happy
marriage is truly a great
blessing in life. This is the
way God intended it.
Since God is the one who
blessed the human race with
marriage it is his word that
must govern this relation-
ship. God is the one who
determines that marriage is
for man and woman. He is
the one who defines mar-
riage as heterosexual and
not homosexual. He is the
one that determines mar-
riage is for life, “till death
do ye part.” He is the one
who decides who may or
may not marry with his ap-
proval.
It is God, not man, who
determines that divorce is
wrong and sinful. It is God
who informs man what con-
stitutes adultery. It is God
who determines when and
if an individual has the right
to remarry following a di-
vorce. Man determines
none of these things. What
man’s role is in these mat-
ters is to bow in humble
submission to what God has
said about marriage know-
ing that we will be held ac-
countable for the proper re-
sponse to God’s will on
these matters.
We truly honor mar-
riage only when we respect
what God has said about
marriage. Human beings
dishonor the marriage rela-
tionship when we refuse to
follow God’s word on this
subject. Marriage is dis-
honored when divorce takes
place. God hates divorce
and we must hate it too.
Marriage is dishonored
when husbands and wives
do not love their spouses as
God intended. Divorce
pleases the devil and not
God.
Happenings at Joaquin FUMC RTastoimith’
Grace and peace from
our brother Jesus, Amen.
Today is the Third Sun-
day of Easter. We had a nice
crowd at Sunday School
and Worship. Peyton Jones
came with her grandpar-
ents, Mike and Lavonne
Wood and it is always great
to have Peyton visiting us.
The scriptures for this Sun-
day speak about the pre-
dominant fear of Easter and
that was fear. The disciples
were fearful of the future
and the scriptures say they
were “startled and fright-
ened” when Jesus appeared
to them. The great news of
the Easter message is not
only “Jesus is raised from
the dead” but he was raised
for us. That is the Good
News.
Wednesday Evening
Bible Study will continue
with our study of the Old
Testament. We are going to
look to explore the period of
time in which Israel had a
king. Every Thursday morn-
ing we have prayer at church
and then go have breakfast
at BB’s Cafe. Everyone is
invited to join us.
The Sophomore Class
will be taking their TAKS
tests in Math, Science, and
Social Studies this week at
our church. Many of the
area churches will be hosts
to different classes taken
tests. Sue has been at
church moving tables and
chairs and getting ready
for this week. Good luck
to all the Joaquin kids who
will be taking these tests.
I sure am happy my test
taking days are over!
Our church will spon-
sor our Senior Luncheon
on Wednesday, May 6th. We
have invited die graduating
class from JHS for lunch
that day. I taught these
graduating seniors back in
die 4th Grade. That has been
a few years ago.
The church is also going
to sell hamburger plates on
June 6th and have a big rum-
mage sale. All the proceeds
will go to towards the reno-
vations at church. The pro-
ceeds from the fundraisers
will go toward our renova-
tion fund. Our church
phone number is 269-3661

Teachings from the Bible 569 9840 Dwayne Sowell
We are in a study of the
Bible as a book. By what
and whose authority did we
receive it?
Acts 1:16 “Men and
brethren, this scripture must
needs have been fulfilled,
which the Holy Ghost by
the mouth of David spake
before concerning Judas,
which was guide to them
that took Jesus.” 2 Tim. 3:
16 -17 “All scripture is
given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doc-
trine, for reproof, for cor-
rection, for instruction in
righteousness: That the man
of God may be perfect, thor-
Pat and I have been on
vacation for the last two
weeks.
When I scheduled my
vacation, I asked Dan Shep-
herd to preach at Timpson
and Caledonia and Rev.
Charles Danheim to preach
at Garrison. Our churches
are fortunate to have such
wonderful men to proclaim
the Word of God. On both
Sundays, these gentlemen
challenged the congrega-
tions with Spirit-filled ser-
mons. Thanks be to God for
Dan Shepherd and Charles
Danheim. The next time
you have an opportunity to
hear either of these gentle -
oughly furnished unto all
good works.” Heb. 1: 1-2
“God, who at sundry times
and in divers manners
spake in times past unto the
fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spo-
ken unto us by his Son, in
whom hehath appointed
heir of all things, by whom
also he made the worlds.”
1 Peter 1: 11-12 “Search-
ing what, or what manner
of time the Spirit of Christ
which was in them did sig-
nify, when it testified be-
forehand the sufferings of
Christ, and the glory that
should follow. Unto them it
men, you’ll be blessed in
listening.
This year Pat and I took
a “working vacation.”
Maybe you don’t know
what that means so let me
explain. For all the years
of our careers, vacations
were often times spent in
catching up on mainte-
nance chores at our farm
house. Since we lived in
Houston we had only
weekends to do routine
maintenance at the farm,
and there were always
things which had to be
postponed until we had
“time” to get them done.
We spent many vacations
was revealed, that not unto
themselves, but unto us they
did minister the things,
which are now reported unto
you by them that have
preached the gospel unto you
with Holy Ghost sent down
from heaven; which things
the angels desire to look
into.” John 16:13 “Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth,
is come, he will guide you
into all truth: for he shall not
speak of himself; but what-
soever he shall hear, that
shall he speak: an he will
show you things to
come.”Prov. 14:12 “There is
a way which seemeth right
clearing fence rows, vacci-
nating calves, washing win-
dows, and otherwise catch-
ing up on the endless chores
associated with property
maintenance. It was good
work though and we were
always thankful for the
chance to get things done.
Now you understand my
term, “working vacation.”
In the last two weeks, Pat
has been good enough to do
chores which I wanted done
at our farm house. It has
been a real “working vaca-
tion” for him. I’ve helped,
but he is the one who’s done
most of the work.
He built some book-
unto a man; but the end
thereof are the ways of
death. “ John 1:1-5 “In the
beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with
God, and the Word was
God. The same was in the
beginning with God. All
things were made by him;
and without him was not
any thing made. In him
was life; and the life was
the light of men. And the
light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness compre-
hended it not. ”Rev. 22:18-
19 “For I testify unto ev-
ery man that heareth the
words of the prophecy of
shelves for me. Martha
Wheeler has a bookcase
which I fell in love with the
first time I saw it. She said
she wouldn’t mind if Pat
replicated one for me. So,
we went to Lowe’s and
purchased the material;
came home and set out to
build the bookshelf. He
trimmed it out and painted
it with primer before he
painted the final finish.
Wow! It was perfect.
When we brought it into
the house, it fit perfectly
and was just what I
wanted.
But then we noticed
that the bookshelf was too
this book, If any man shall
add unto these things, God
shall add unto him the
plagues that are written in
this book: And if any man
shall take away from the
words of the book of this
prophecy, God shall take
away his part out of the
book of life, and out of the
holy city, and from the
things which are written in
this book.. He that testifeth
these things saith, Surely I
come quickly. Amen. Even
so* come, Lord Jesus.”
What other proof could you
want that God gave the au-
thority for the writing of the
close to the pull-down stair-
way to the attic for the door
to clear the bookshelf. Talk
about planning! Pat had to
take the trim off and replace
it with a narrower trim;
reprimer; and repaint. And
he did all this without too
much complaining.
We have a little building
on our property which
needed repairs badly. There
were some boards to re-
place and repaint and some
other minor repairs. Pat got
those jobs done as well.
While he was doing
those chores, I weeded
flowerbeds and planted
some blooming flowers.
bible? GaL 1 :6-7 “But of
those who seemed to be
somewhat,( whatsoever
they were, it maketh no
matter to me: God
accepteth no man’s person:)
for they who seemed to be
somewhat in conference
added nothing to me: But
contrariwise* when they
saw that the gospel of the
uncircumcision was com-
mitted unto me, as the gos-
pel of the circumcision was
to Peter:” Timpson Church
of Christ gathers each Sun-
day. Worship at 10:00
O’clock. The invitation is
“For whosoever will.”
And, I must have destroyed
about one million fire ants.
(I probably just moved
them, but I sprayed with the
intent to kill!)
I heard Pat tell someone
Sunday that he needed to
come home to Timpson so
he could get some rest. Our
vacation nearly worked him
down. He did tell me he
doesn’t want to see any
more chore lists for a while.
Aren’t you glad that God
never takes a vacation?
He’s there any time, all the
time, always there for us.
He has the perfect plan. He
never does any complain-
ing, and we don’t tire him.
