WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURES ?
San Augustine Church of Christ
Most problems raised by bib-
lical revision stem from people’s
misconceptions
about the 1611
King James
Version. Many
people suppose
the KJV is the
Bible against
which all new
translations and
revisions must be measured.
This is an erroneous concept.
Any translation should stand or
fall on its own merits when
viewed in light of the standard
Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek
texts. Thus the need for continu-
ous revision may be best illus-
trated by pointing to the fact that
the 1611 KJV is itself one of the
most successful revisions in the
history of the English Bible.
The KJV was never intended
to be a new translation of the
Bible. When Miles Smith
penned his lengthy preface, “The
Translators To The Reader,” he
explained that “we never
thought from the beginning, that
we should need to make a new
translation.” Existing transla-
tions were to be the basis of the
KJV with specific instructions
not to “depart to any significant
extent from the text of the
Bishop’s Bible of 1568.” The
translators understood that their
objective was simply “to make
a good one better, or out of the
many good ones, one principal
good one.” [Note: The original
preface I am quoting is gener-
ally not found in modem editions
of the KJV],
When the KJV made its de-
but in 1611 it was number nine
in the sequence of printed En-
glish Bibles. It is estimated that
the KJV today actually pre-
serves more than 80% of Will-
iam Tyndale’s translation of
1526. The 1611 KJV would
eventually go through several
revisions. The one we commonly
have available today is an
Americanized edition of a revi-
sion made in 1769. One pub-
lisher who recognized the need
for further revision and modern-
izing of language within the
KJV is the Thomas Nelson Cor-
poration of Nashville. In 1979
they published the New Testa-
Happenings at Joaquin FUMC_Randy smith, Pastor
Grace and peace from our
brother Jesus, Amen! Sue and I
got back home from two weeks
in the Midwest. We went to two
family reunions one in Missouri
and the other in Illinois. Both
little towns were right on the
Mississippi River. The destruc-
tion caused by the flooding has
been devastating. Wednesday
evening the church had its July
4th Cookout. We had a good
crowd and Glenn and P. A.
cooked hamburgers, sausages,
hotdogs, and Stacy Taylor
brought ribs. Everyone had
plenty to eat and it sure was
good seeing everyone. Sunday
was the Eighth Sunday after
Pentecost and the Gospel Les-
son was Matthew 11: 16-19,25-
30 and the Epistle Lesson was
Romans 7: 15-25. In the Epistle
Lesson, Paul was telling the
faithful in Rome how difficult he
found it to do what was right and
that he often did what was
wrong. In this way, Paul is talk-
ing to every person who
struggles with faith and living a
faithful life. In the Gospel Les-
son, Jesus almost seems to be
answering the problems that
Paul is talking about. He urges
his friends to let him carry their
burdens so that they do not have
to be so worried and anxious.
The whole sermon is posted on
the church website under
Links.a We had a good crowd
Sunday and had several visitors.
Harold and Mildred, Frank and
Martha’s kinfolks were in town.
It is always good to see them.
Debbie and Bailey Dockens
were in town and came to Sun-
day School and church. It was
great to see both of them. Jenny
Taylor and her children, Justin,
Hailey, Rory, and Rowdy also
came to Sunday School and
church. Simone, Hailey, Teddy,
Tammy, and Ted are visiting
relatives in Kansas but are ex-
pected back this week. I hope
they had a good visit but I am
sure they will be happy to get
back home. The church email

The question has been ask: Is
there one true religion? The
simple answer is yes, but let us
prove it with the Bible. Matt.
16:15-20 “He saith unto them,
But whom say ye that 1 am? And
Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of
the living God. And Jesus an-
swered and said unto him,
Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-
jona: for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my
Father which is in heaven. And
I say also unto thee, That thou
art Peter, and upon this rock I
will build my church; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail
against it. And I will give unto
thee the keys of the kingdom of
heaven and whatsoever thou
shalt bind on earth shall be
bound in heaven and whatsoever
thou shalt loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven.” Please
note he said My church.
Eph.4:4-7 “There is one
body, and one Spirit, even as ye
are called in one hope of you
calling; One Lord, one faith, one
baptism” One God and Father
of all, who is above all, and
through all, and in all. But unto
every one of us is given grace
according to the measure of the
gift of Christ.” How do we rec-
ognize His Church? We must
study. 2 Tim. 2:15" Study to
show thyself approved unto
God, a workman that needeth
not be ashamed, rightly divid-
ing the word of truth.” Acts
4:1 l-12"This is the stone which
was set at naught of you build-
ers, which is become the head
of the Comer. Neither is there
salvation in any other: for there
is none other name under heaven
given among men, whereby we
must be saved.”
You cannot join this Church.
You must follow instruction
given: Acts 2:38-42 “Then Pe-
ter said unto them, Repent, and
be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost. For the promise is unto
you, and to you children, and to
all that are afar off, even as
many as the Lord our God shall
call. Arid with many other words
did he testify and exhort, say-
ing, Save yourselves from this
untold generation.
Then they that gladly re-
ceived his word were baptized:
and that same day there were
added unto them about three
thousand souls. And they con-
tinued steadfast in ;the apostles’
doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and in
prayers.”
Please note those baptized
had sins to repent of. And un-
derstood what they were doing.
No babies. Acts 2:46-47" And
they, continuing daily with one
accord in the temple, and break-
ing bread from house to house,
did eat their meat with gladness
and singleness of heart, Prais-
ing God, and having favor with
all the people. And the Lord
added to the church daily such
as should be saved.” Next week
we will look to the Bible for the
guidance of each congregation.
SEEDS FROM THE SOWER
Michael Guido, Metter, GA.
Harry Winston had purchased a world famous diamond, and
was expecting its delivery at any moment. The
crowd kept looking for an armored truck. But a
delivery man walked up to Winston and handed
him a brown paper bag. He opened it and there
was the diamond.
Something like that happened about 2,000 years
gago. The world was expecting the Messiah. They
lidn’t think He’d come in a “brown paper bag,”
heavenly host and great glory! What happened? His
)wn people rejected Him. But I have accepted Him.
What will you do with Jesus?

The Book of Revelations
Timpson Missionary Baptist Church By Sammy J. Eldredge, Min.
THE BOOK OF REVELATION, SERMON, # 14: PART
TWO (REV. 14:6-8)ANGELS EVERYWHERE. INTRO:
THE END IS ABOUT TO COME, AND THE ANGELS OF
HEAVEN ARE CARRYING OUT GODS PLAN TO WIN
THE LOST TO SALVATION, IN THE EARTH.
A. OUR GOD IS FILLED WITH LOVE, GRACE, AND
MERCY.
B. HE HAS, AND IS GIVING EVERY CHANCE HE CAN
TO THOSE WHO WILL LISTEN AND RESPOND.
I. ANOTHER ANGEL (VERSE 6)
A. THIS ANGEL IS FLYING THROUGH HEAVEN.
1). I read somewhere the other day that this was not
really an angel! 2). Well, I don’t understand how someone who
claims to be saved by faith, can doubt the word.!!!
B. IT SAYS VERY PLAINLY,” ANOTHER ANGEL FLEW
“ IN THE MIST OF HEAVEN”, WITH THE EVERLASTING
GOSPEL, TO PREACH TO THOSE ON THE EARTH.”
1). Now that you see what God has said, put behind
you all the words of men. 2). Believe this, that God is deter-
mined to save as many as will believe. 3). He will use Israel,
the church, or any other means to do so.!
C. THE PEOPLE OF THE EARTH HAVE SEEN THE
WONDER OF THE NATION OF ISRAEL, CARED FOR
EVEN IN THE MIST OF THEIR UNBELIEF.
1). They had God’s message first. 2). They would
not believe it.
D. THEN CAME THE MYSTERY OF THE CHURCH.
1). For two thousand years the church has been com-
missioned to preach the gospel. 2). The world is still not saved.
E. SO NOW AN ANGELIC BEING WILL FLY
THROUGH HEAVEN WITH THE MESSAGE.
II. WITHIN THIS MESSAGE IS A MESSAGE, “FEAR GOD,
AND GIVE GLORY TO HIM FOR THE HOUR OF HIS
JUDGEMENT IS COME.”
A. THE VIALS OF GOD’S WRATH IS ABOUT TO BE
POURED FORTH ON THE EARTH.
1). This is some of the most devastating judgement that
men ever saw 2). But before the judgement, comes the warn-
ing.
B. GOD WAITED, 120 YEARS BEFORE HE
BROUGHT THE FLOOD IN NOAH’S DAY.
C. HE SENT JONAH, TO PREACH TO NINEVEH,
BEFORE HE WAS TO DESTROY THE CITY.
D. AND NOW HE SENDS AN ANGEL.
III. THERE FOLLOWED ANOTHER ANGEL: (VS, 8 )
A. HIS MESSAGE WAS, “ BABYLON IS FALLEN, IS
FALLEN ”
1). Babylon is the world system. 2). It has been here
since the time of the building of the tower in Genesis.
B. IT HAS PASSED THROUGH ASSYRIA,
BABYLON, AND ROME, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS.
1). Even America has carried on the religious and eco-
nomics slavery of men. 2). It will finally end up in the Euro-
pean Union which is the revived Roman Empire.
C. THIS IS THE THRONE ROOM OF THE COM-
ING ANTI-CHRIST.
1). From this great city,( Rome, He will rule over the
world and make war with the saints, (the 144,000) saved Jews.
2). But His rule will be short lived.
D. THE WARNING IS COME.
1). Along with all who give their allegiance. 2). Come
out of her my people!
