Ennis running back Terence Williams will lead the Lions on the road this
Friday against Lewisville. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
WEEK 2: Lions
battle Lewisville
Dave A. Vance

The Ennis Lions (1-0) head to Max
Goldsmith Stadium in Lewisville Friday
to face the Farmers (0-1, 5A) at 7:30 p.m.
The Farmers lost their season opener 22-
0 against Plano last Friday
Lion coach Jack Alvarez compared
Lewisville to Burleson Centennial and is
expecting a challenge.
"They're very comparable to the team
we just saw as far as what they do and
how they line up," Alvarez said.
"Their defensive line is pretty good
and their forcing unit. They'll be a chal-
lenge.
"We're going to have to play. We just
need to execute, tackle, line up correctly
and keep working on our game."
Defensive coordinator Gary Vanya
agreed that Lewisville is similar to
Burleson.
"Their offense is pretty similar to
what we saw last week. Hopefully we'll
repeat what we did last week; throw the
football, make some tackles, force a cou-
ple turnovers and have a good game," he
said.
The Lions defeated Lewisville 30-26
last season, but Lion offensive coordina-
tor Brandon Layne pointed out that this
is the second year for Farmer head coach
Gregg Miller and anticipates the team
has become more adjusted to his coach-
ing style similar to the Lions becoming
adjusted to Alvarez's style last season.
"This is the coach's second year there,"
Layne said. "They're big and they have a
great technique."
Layne said the Lion offense will do
what they have to do to win by making
adjustments on the offense. He said if
they can throw the ball, they will but
they will also run the ball if they have to.
Lion receiver Marcus Daggs acknowl-
edged the Lions got off to a slow start
last year, but said the team has an ad-
vantage this year with a desire to score
quickly.
"We were a take it slow team last year
and milk the clock but this year let's go
score right now," he said. "I think we're
going to play really good."
Shooter
pleads
guilty

The man who shot Ennis resident
Eric Rasco in March pleaded guilty
to charges of aggravated assault
with a deadly weapon and tampering
with or fabricating physical evi-
dence.
Dennis Ray Holt, Jr., accepted a
plea deal for 25 years of prison time
with the Texas Department of Cor-
rections. He received 156 days of
credit for time served at Wayne Mc-
Collum Detention Center leading up
to his plea in 40th Judicial District
Court.
Holt, 46, was implicated by sur-
veillance video in a March 5 shooting
incident on Lakeshore Drive. Offi-
cers found Rasco lying in the street
outside his home, and he also identi-
fied his shooter as Holt.
Police Chief John Erisman said
he suspects the incident was related
to a standing disagreement between
Rasco and Holt. When Holt drove up
to the home on the day of the shoot-
ing, he spoke with Rasco briefly be-
fore shooting him twice — once in
the chest and once in the back. Rasco
was hospitalized for several days in
critical condition and later recov-
ered from his wounds. Police chased
Holt for 30 hours before apprehend-
ing Holt in Gun Barrel City
Before the most recent charge
against him, Holt was a two-time
convicted felon.

The inaugural production
of the Theatre Rocks! play-
house in Ennis takes the stage
Friday night.
The Rainmaker, by N.
Richard Nash, opens at 7:30
p.m. at the new theater, located
at 505 NW Main St. The newly
renovated space, created by a
team of theater actors, stake-
holders and volunteers, was
undergoing final inspections
this week before actors take to
the stage.
Director Bill Rhoten, who
has worked for months to set
up the show, is enthusiastic
about the coming production
and the season at large.
“I am looking forward to an
exciting and challenging sea-
son and am delighted to be
producing it in Theatre Rocks!
own home,” Rhoten said.
The Rainmaker, set in a
drought-ridden rural town in
the West during Depression
era America, tells the story of
a pivotal hot summer day in
the life of spinsterish Lizzie
Curry, who keeps house for
her father and two brothers on
the family cattle ranch, and a
