JV Lions suffer Indian blitz
GAINING YARDAGE - Isidro Behena drives the ball down field with three Indian
defenders closing in. The JV Lions fell to Comanche last Thursday but are looking to
defeat the Bulldogs this coming Thursday in Clyde with game slated for 5:30 p.m.
LIONS
Cont’d from B1
district behind Eastland,
Breckenridge and Merkel.
They are led by last year’s
newcomer of the year in
the district, Ty Spears at
running back. Clyde has
lost to Cisco and Whitney
this year.
In Comanche with both
stands overflowing with
fans, Dublin might have
anticipated bad things
when the band instrument
trailer had a flat and the
band didn’t get in place
soon enough to play the
school song.
The Lions weren’t able to
get a first down until early
in the second quarter
although they won the coin
toss and were first to
receive the ball.
The Indians scored on a
time consuming drive - as

Jesse Luker with Cesar
Martinez adding the PAT

exception of one kick for
the game.
Score was 0-7 with 6:58
to go in the first quarter.
The next Indian score
came on their next
possession on a 73 yard
punt return by Wyatt
Mankin, making the score
0-14 with 5:25 left in the
opening quarter.
Dublin fumbled on the
first play of its next
possession and Quarterback
Caisson Montieth passed to
Daniel Davila for eight
yards on fourth down with
1:21 left in the first period,
giving the Indians a 0-21
lead.
Dublin got the ball and

Panthers
The Huston Academy
Panthers fell to the Gordon
Longhorns Friday night
80-7. “Gordon was a tough
game,” said head coach
Regis Idemudia. “We played
a good team, and battled
through injuries.
The offense had trouble
clicking together and it put
our defense in bad
positioning. It was a good
game to gain experience in.
I’m still very proud of the
Panthers and every week we
will continue to get better,"
Idemudia added.
Next up is Lingleville
which is a JV game on
Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30
p.m. in lingleville.

the score 7-28.
On the next Comanche
possession, Roberts took a

By Coach Ryan
Thornton
The JV Gold Team
welcomed district opponent
Comanche to town on
Thursday after taking a
break from district play
last week. The Lions got
off to a slow start giving up
an early touchdown to
Comanche in the first
quarter.
The Lion offense would
answer back with 6 points
of their own on a 48 yard
run by Quarterback Manny
Vasquez on 4th down.
Going into halftime the
Lions would trail the
Indians by 7.
After halftime the Lions
would struggle to get things
going offensively.
The Lions were lead in
the 2nd half by running
back Emmanuel McQueen
who had multiple runs of 7
yards or more and receiver
to 7-48.
Dublin came right back
with a drive form their own
26 with Holleman hitting
Josh Jackson from 39 yards
out for a score and again
Campos added the PAT,
making the score 14-48
with 6:14 left in the third
period.
On the first play of their
next possession, Roberts
broke through for a 64 yard
run, increasing the Indian
lead to 14-54 as the PAT
was no good.
Dublin got to the Indian 2
and the drive ended at the
half yard line although it
appeared Holleman hit the
goal line marker on fourth
down but officials gave the
ball over to the Indians.
Comanche drove the
length of the field to score
on a run by Montieth
leading to the final tally of
14-61 with only minutes
remaining.
As the game came to a
close, the Lions got to the
Indian 3 and were stopped.
JH Lions suffer losses
Dublin 7th Gold 6
Comanche 7th Gold 26
Dublin traveled to
Comanche this past
Thursday to take on the
Indians.
Dublin would play hard
but the Indians were to
much for the lions on this
day. Offensively, Jacob
Owen hit a wide open
Marky Ybarra down the
sideline for a 45 yard pass.
The lions would punch it
in for a touchdown from 1
yard out from Ybarra.
Others lions that
contributed are Frankie
Quintero, Matthew Mirick,
Isaiah Cisneroz and Juan
Rodriguez. Dublin would
have a tough night on
defense but there were
bright spots. Big hits from
Jared Ricks, Cesar Tavera,
and Bryr Spurger. The
lions overall record is
2-2-1.
Dublin 8th Gold 0
Comanche 8th Gold 35
The 8th gold team would
follow the 7th grade gold
team to Comanche to also
take on the Indians. Dublin
would never find the end
zone against the Indians
but the lions would have
the ball in the redzone,
inside the 5, three different
times.
The offensive bright
spots were Jeremiah
Martinez, Billy Dale Mercer
and Tim Teten. The
offensive line played a
great game overall. The
defense would struggle at
times but they competed
and that was the most
important part.
The defenses would have
big hits and tackles from
Gabriel Coronado, Jesse
Blazi, John Hines and Qacar
Ruiz. The overall record
for the 8th grade is 2-2-1.

The JV Green team would
jump back into district play
Thursday night following
an open week last week.
Quarterback Isidro Bahena
would lead the attack on
the Indians with his feet
with runs of 12, 15 and 19
yards in the first half, but
would be unable to find
the end zone. The Lions
would trail the Indians 21 -0
at halftime.
Return man Gabe Garcia
would give the Lions their
best starting position of
the night in the 3rd quarter
after a 65 yard kick return
and an additional 15 yard
face mask penalty on the
Indians.

Zinck and Brayden
Burleson, and Running

half. The lions would go
on the lose by a score of

Kendall, “We played with a
lot of heart tonight. We
saw some things that we
need to work on tonight,
but our kids never gave up.
That’s something you can’t
coach.”
