will organize
An organizational
meeting for older persons
interested in forming a
local chapter of the
American Association of
Retired Persons (AARP)
will be held Thursday at 7
p.m. at the Dublin Senior
Citizens Center, according
to Leon Broughton, chair-
man of the steering com-
mittee.
Prior to the meeting, the
Happy Entertainers of the
Dublin Senior Citizens Cen-
ter will perform at 6:15
p.m.
In keeping with the
organizational meeting,
Mayor Jack Pratt has
declared Thursday as
AARP Day. He signed a
proclamation which reads
as follows:
Whereas, the city of
Dublin has been enriched
by the contributions of its
older citizens, and
Whereas, I believe that
every citizen should have
the life-long opportunity to
develop and use personal
abilities to provide service
to family, friends, neigh-
bors, and the community;

Pratt Mayor of The City of
Dublin, do hereby
recognize the contributions
of AARP for all older
Americans and especially
the citizens of The City of
Dublin, and I do hereby
proclaim the day of June
14, Thursday, 1984 as
American Association of
Retired Persons Day in
The City of Dublin, the day
that a local AARP Chapter
will be formed.
AARP is the national’s
largest retiree

3,200 local chapters and
more than 15 million mem-

involved in community

said Broughton.
Chapters also serve as
local sponsors for con-

consumer affairs,
Broughton said.

New Dublin bank
gets approval
See pa yt IB for the Erath
County Dairy Day schedule
of events.
Organizers of the First
National Bank of Dublin
received written tentative
approval this week to start
work on developing the new
Dublin bank which should
have its new building com-
pleted and open for
business by early 1985, ac-
cording to John Moore, one
of the organizers.
“This is the fastest we
know of a new bank being
approved,” said Moore.
“We applied Feb. 8 and
were told it would probably
be six to eight months
before approval was gran-
ted,” he said.
“Our tentative approval
was dated May 19, slightly
over three months later,”
Moore stated. Moore said
possibly part of the reason
for the authorization to
move so quickly is due to
all the organizers having
been in the banking
business.
Organizers of the First
National Bank are Lonnie
M. Hammonds, C.E.
Leatherwood Jr., James C
Leatherwood, John R.
Moore, Harlan Lynn Raley
and Sam E. Taylor, all of
Dublin, Elmer Jack Parks
of Stephenville and H.W
Parks of Lingleville.
H.W. Parks and Taylor
helped in organizing the
Cross Timbers Savings and
Loan in Stephenville, which
is now Nowlin Savings and
Loan. The other
organizers, except for E.J.
Parks, are associated with
First State Bank in
Gustine. “Hammonds was
once a loan officer at Fort
Worth National Bank,” ad-
ded Moore.
The authorized capital
stock, according to the
organization certicicate.
will be $1,725,000 and will
be divided into 172,000
shares of $10 each.
According to Moore, the
next three steps for the
bank organizers will Ije to
locate a building site, sub-
mit plans of the bank
building for approval and
send out letters of sub-
scription for prospective
stockholders
"We will be working out
the legal details in order to
offer stock for sale,” said
Moore, “and we plan to
build a brand new modem
building for the bank. ”
“We feel like the new
bank will be a boost to our
local economy,” said
Taylor, another organizer
of the new bank. “We plan
to give good community
service,” he added.
Both Moore and Taylor
said the First National
Bank of Dublin will be em-
ploying several local
people. “We will probably
begin interviewing
prospective employees this
fall,” said Moore.
“We are excited about
the new bank," Moore said
“It is going to be fun to get
First National Bank
going,” he said. “It will be
big business for Dublin,"
Moore added
F urther information
about the new bank can be
learned by contacting any
of the organizers or by
writing First National
Bank, P.0 Box 440, Dublin.
