The poor showing
to prompted Coach Brooks
'{ Symank to remark,
'*• “Several weeks ago you
q printed that track is a
ic sport that demands
■q personal sacrifices. Well, I
if have come to the
conclusion that we have
v, some boys that are not
* willing to make that

r< our track team will consist
r> of only those boys who
s are willing to go all out
? and make those
sacrifices.”
Coach Kennith Jaggars,
on the other hand, was
optimistic about his girls
! track team. Jaggars said,
“These girls don’t want to
be good losers. I think
they have decided to be
good winners.”
The boys will go to
Hamilton next Friday,
April 1 to compete in the
Hamilton Track Meet. The
girls went to Goldthwaite
Saturday for the
Goldthwaite Invitational.
Last week the girls
made a good showing at
the Hill Country relays as
Teresa Hudson finished
second and third,
respectively in the 100 and
220-yard dashes and Karen
Thiebaud was clocked at
11.4 for a second place

Corps Issues Warning On Water Safety
The Corps of Engineers
has issued its early spring
warning for visitors to the
17 Corps lakes in the Fort
Worth District regarding
water safety.
The five drownings so
far in 1977, along with the
three in December 1976,
have caused Colonel John
F. Wall, District Engineer,
Fort Worth District, U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers,
to issue an early warning
to lake visitors to observe
water safety rules.
Six of the drownings
were related to use of
boats which either
capsized, had steering
failures, or were
improperly operated.
Colonel Wall emphasized
that the few warm days
had rekindled the urge to
get out on the lakes to

lesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve
disciples apart in the way, and said unto them.
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem: and the Son of man
shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the
scribes, and they shall condemn him to death.
And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to
scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall
rise again.
St: Matthew 20:1719
GOOD WORD from the ^
Some of us thoroughly familiar with the Bible sometimes
forget that the pain and suffering of Christ upon earth was in-
tense and real.
We know Christ bled when they placed the crown of thorns,
when they pierced the side and we know most of all the agony of
the crucifixion. But, we think little of the mental anguish.
To be certain of death is to carry a heavy cross. And yet, as
that time drew nearer for Christ, the concern was not for self, but
for the disciples. They found it hard to accept that the Master
would be put to death by mere mortals. They needed to be con-
vinced that such was to be.
Also, they were in need of a stronger faith. Thus, Christ not
only reminded them of suffering, crucifixation and death; he re-
emphasized the promise of resurrection.
And so it is that we need to remember the anguish and the
suffering of Christ, remembering at the same time that death
was but a prelude to resurrection and eternal life.
enjoy a few hours of
fishing, sailboating, and
cruising in the sr*m after
the many cold rainy
weekends, without
adequately checking the
boat and safety
equipment. Some of the
safety rules he stressed
were;
1. Wear your life jacket
at all times when on the
water.
2. Watch the weather;
head for NEAREST
LAND if the wind
suddenly starts blowing
hard.
3i Know the boat’s
capacity and don’t
overload.
4. Reduce speed when
approaching other boats.
5. If your boat upsets,
stay with it and use it as a
life preserver.
6. Practice good
manners afloat and give
help to boat in distress.
Colonel Wall also
reminded visitors that even
though the days are
warming rapidly, thp^lakp
water is still cold enough
to quickly drain the
body’s heat and cause
exposure death. His final
caution is to remember
that it only takes a few
seconds to drown at any
time of the year.
More than 36 million,
visitors visited the Corps’
lakes in central and
southeast Texas last year,
Colonel Wall said, and he
expects this number to be
even higher this year.
DUBLIN OUTDOORS
by W. R. Long
The Dublin Pistol Club has succeeded
in bring together in the safest possible
manner a group of outdoor-indoor enthusiast
but has far greater value than just markma
ship. It may, and probably will, save lives.
Founded by a group of Dublin business
and professional men, the club has even
a safer shooting range than the Dallas and
Ft. Worth Police Departments, a'nd teaches
S^kill to area peace officers and homeowners
When an officer becomes more proficient,
the greater degree of protection is passed o
to merchants and people at home with little
or no protection. It’s well to remember the
criminal is armed. If the citizen is unarmed
the world would be his.
Civic benefits of the Dublin Pistol Club
are yet to come.
Giving birth to such a club is similar to
what Bob Ruark said about driving a Model
t
T Ford. It takes a monkey to do it. Cne foot
on the brake, one foot on the clutch , two
hands on the wheel and a tail to keep the door
shut.
Many Dublin business men gave of their
time and their money in order to, in a small
way, get Dublin people together in still a-
nother way. Their efforts were aimed at just
one thing- the betterment off our town
This spring, sanctioned by the President
of the United States and authorized by the
Governor of Texas, the Club will teach many
classes of youngsters the^ Hunter Safte/
Course. From such a course, if one life is
saved, the effort is a splendid one. Anyone
who would dare dissent against such a course,
sponsored by the Texas Parks& Wildlife
Department , is saying , "We don't care
whether our young hunters are safe or not."
We care. The Dublin Pistol Club cares.
Hunting with a firearm is an inherited prive-
ledgewe must and shall protect and preserve.
The trenches of War Cne and War Two were
manned by boys grown to men, most of them
learning to shoot properly on targets and on
the game we have in our woods and fields.
Good? Well, our shores have not yet been
invaded 1
By request of dozens of housewives in the
community, the Club will then teach the
HOME FIREARM SAFETY COURSE. How
to handle the hunting gun used doubly for
home protection, and if you don’t thing that’s
important, try this: Place a sign on your
front door that says: THERE ARE NO FIRE-
ARMS IN THIS HOUSE.
You’ll get ripped off by the end of the
week, if your’re lucky enough not to get
killed by the night prowler. These men are
working for you. Help them if you will.

Many New Marriages Headed For Divorce
STATION-Forty per cent
of new marriages will end
in divorce, if current
trends continue, Debby
Johnson, a family life
education specialist,
reports.
“Divorce, in most cases,
is the result of an
unpleasant commitment to
a loved one-which taxes
both financial and
emotional resources.
Divorce is -never pleasant,
and even the most
amicable divorce is
traumatic for one or both
partners,” the specialist
explained.
Miss Johnson is with the
Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, The
Texas A&M University
System.
“Women initiate the
divorce action in 68 per
cent of the suits, and over
half these women are 28
years old or under.
‘‘Although the
proportion of children
living with fathers is
increasing, only 8.4 per
cent of the children with
divorced parents reside
with ththeir fathers,” she
noted.
To keep trauma due to
settlement complications
to a minimum, the
specialist recommended
that couples who foresee
long, drawn-out
negotiations-ovdf njpney,
children or property-seek
lawyers who specialise in
family law or at l^ast
handle a fair volume W
divorce cases. )
“They usually charge
about the same fee and
have had more experience
in handling problematic
situations.
“The lawyer each
individual chooses must be
good at dealing with the
other side on his client’s
behsllf. Negotiations center
around a document called
‘a settlement agreement’
ora ‘separation
agreement,’ which spells
out the details of child
custody and visitation,
alimony and support
payments, and division of
property,” she said.
For the names of
family-law specialists,
couples can contact the
following sources-friends
who are recently divorced,
other lawyers, and the
referral service of the local
or state Bar Association.
Other sources include
the “Martindale-Hubbell
Law Directory” in the
public library. In this
volume, lawyers can pay
to list the specialties in
which they are interested.
Or couples can ask for a
recommendation from the
American Academy of
Matrimonial Lawyers, 900
Lake Shore Drive,
Chicago, Illinois 60611.
