for duty aboard the fleet ballistic mis-
sile submarine USS Lewis and Clark,
homeported in Charleston, S.C. A

School and a 1989 graduate of U.S.
Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.,
with a bachelor of science degree, he
joined the Navy in May 1989.
MARINE CPL. Allan B. Hart, son
of Janis G. Crawford of Sulphur
Springs, recently returned from
deployment to the Middle East in
support of Operation Desert Storm
while serving with 13th Marine
Expeditionary Unit A 1985 graduate
of Tom Bean High School, he joined
the Marine Corps in February 1987.

JANE GLOVER of Sulphur
Springs recently judged piano audi-
tions in Crockett for the National
Guild of Piano Teachers, a division
of the American College of Musi-
cians. She heard approximately 50
students during the three days.

ANGIE MARTIN, a Dairy Festival
candidate, won the originality award
for entry in the 1991 Dairy Festival
Parade. Martin’s float had a Valentine
theme. It featured a giant “milk
chocolate” heart.

versity of Texas at Austin. Jennifer
graduated from Sulphur Springs High
School in 1988 and will graduate
from U.T. Austin in May 1992.
Henry Edwin Newton
Funeral services for Henry Edwin
Newton, 81, were conducted Mon-
day, June 10.
Burial was in Calvary Hill Ceme-
tery in Dallas.
Mr. Newton died Sunday, June 9,
pital in Dallas.
He was bom Jan. 15,1910, in Cor-
sicana.
Mr. Newton served in the Army
Air Force Medical Corps in World
War II. He was a Catholic and a
member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include three step-
daughters, Adrienne Rentfrow of
New London, Harriet Garey of Gar-
land and Caroline Harris of
Cookeville; and their mother, Sue
Edwards of Sulphur Springs.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Ella Newton.
Ray Havner
Funeral services for William Ray
Havner, 56, of Houston, were con-
ducted Saturday June 8.
Burial was in Forest Park East in
Houston.
Mr. Havner died Wednesday, June
5, in the Veterans Administration
hospital in Houston.
He was bom Oct. 4, 1934, in,
Grosvenor, to James Obie Havner
and Emma Fletcher Havner
Survivors include a son, William
Ray Havner Jr. of Auburn, Maine; his
mother, Emma Havner of Sulphur
Springs; three brothers, James Havn-
er of Kyle, Roy Havner of Queen
Creek, Ariz., and Roger Havner of

Simmons of Odessa, Ida Cantrell of

Iberia, La.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his

James B. Gibbons
Funeral services for James B. (Jim)
Gibbons, 76, of Sulphur Springs,
were conducted Friday, June 14, in
Tapp Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Fred W. Lewis officiating.
Burial was in Como Cemetery with
J.A. Summers, Jerry Dodd, Elmo
Bentley, Johnny Taylor, Billy
Williams and Terry Davidson serving
as pallbearers.
Mr. Gibbons died at 6:15 p.m.
Wednesday in Woodhaven Nursing
Home.
He was bom May 21, 1915, in
Como, to James A. and Bertie Lank-
ford Gibbons.
Mr. Gibbons was a retired carpen-
ter and an Army veteran of World
War II. He was also a member of the
Christian Church.
Survivors include two aunts, Stella
Gibbons and Mamie Gibbons, both
of Sulphur Springs.
Inez Green King
Funeral services for Inez Green
King, 73, of Brashear, were conduct-
ed Saturday, June 15, in Tapp Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Putnam
officiating.
Burial was in Brashear Cemetery
with Larry Baker, John Smolinski,
William Bridges, Russell Carroll,
Frank Anderson and Gary Anderson
serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. King died at 8:24 p.m.
Wednesday in Baylor University
Medical Center.
She was bom Oct. 22, 1917, in
Hopkins County, to Clarence C. and
Olee Cromer Green.
Mrs. King was a long-time
employee (seamtress) of Munves
Fashions. She was a member of Wes-
ley United Methodist Church and the
Hopkins County Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include one son, Roger
King of Greenville; two daughter,
Freda Blackburn of Whitefish, Mont,
and Karen Jones of Sulphur Springs;
two sisters, Jewell Anderson of Sul-
phur Springs and Lola Vickers of
Shirley; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, an infant son and two broth-
ers, Cecil Green and R.L Green.
John Coerver Sr.
Graveside services for John
Charles Coerver Sr., 82, of Houston,
were conducted Saturday, June 15, in
Hi 11 crest Memorial Park in Dallas.
Mr. Coerver died late Wednesday
in Houston.
He was bom Aug. 3, 1908, in Dal-
las, to Michael and Frances Mar den
Coerver.
Mr. Coerver was a graduate of
Southern Methodist University and
SMU Pharmaceutical School. He was
a retired pharmacist and a member
of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include one son, John C.
Coerver Jr. of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
two daughters, Margaret Hill of
Houston and Connie Yargo of Austin;
one sister, Sophie Flusche of Dallas ;
seven grandchildren; and 11 great-
grandchildren.

The annual reunion of the Beck-
ham Family Association took place
Saturday, June 8, at City Park
Sterling Beckham who had served
as president of the association for
many years, was remembered with
appreciation.
Opal Beckham McCoy, daughter of
the late R.Y. Beckham and Harriet
Kenney Beckham, also died during
the past year in Denver, Colo. She
was a former teacher who was bom
and raised in Sulphur Springs. She
had lived in Vincennes, Ind., for a

Clara Beckham Mansell was hon-
ored as the eldest member at 90 years
erf age.
Among those absent were Jeana
Beckham Rabe, the chairman for the
past three years.
The Kenney, Williams and Owen
lines are allied to the Beckham.
The get-together followed tradi-
tional ways in that the meal was cov-
ered dish picnic-style. The afternoon
was spent reminiscing and taking pic-
tures. Three classical histories were
shared, along with four personal his-
tories.
Danny Melton, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Rayburn Melton, came this year. He
shared genealogical material with the
group and took many photographs.
This observance began in 1944. It
is designed to keep family ties strong
and to encourage family histories.
The current local branches are
made up of descendants of James
Sherwood and Sarah Elizabeth Taylor
Beckhamm who came to Texas from
Zebukm, Ga^ in 1859.

She was bom Jan. 27, 1919, in
Winfield, to R.C. and Flossie Bell

Mrs. Mitcham had been a resident
of Sulphur Springs for the past six
months. She was a homemaker and a
member of the Church of Christ
Survivors include one daughter,
Mrs. Johnny (Pat) McAfee of Sul-
phur Springs; two sons, Mark Collins
of Ore City and Tex Campbell of
Longview; and eight grandchildren.
Donnie Cole
Funeral services for Donnie Cole,
87, of Mabank, were conducted Sun-
day, June 16, in Tapp Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Johnny Johnson offici-
ating.
Burial was in North Hopkins
Cemetery with grandsons serving as
pallbearers.
Mrs. Cole died at 7:15 a.m. Friday
in Rosehaven Retreat Nursing Center
in Kaufman.
She was bora June 27, 1903, in
Pecan Gap, to John Mathes and Mary
Jane Coker Bunch. She married Tul-
less John Cole on April 2,1921, in
Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in
death in 1976.
Mrs. Cole was a homemaker and a
member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby
G. Cole of Birthright and Donald B.
Cole; one daughter, Marlene M.
Barnes of Mabank; nine grandchil-
dren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Joe Alan Webb
Joe Alan Webb, 40, of Farmington,
N.M., died Friday, June 14, in a
Farmington hospital, following a
brief illness.
Survivors include his father, Billy
Joe Webb of Sulphur Springs.

Jearld Boles
Funeral services for Jearld Boles of
Cooper were conducted Tuesday,
June 18, in First Baptist Church with
the Rev. Richard Tatum and the Rev.
Fred Lewis officiating.
Burial was in Oaldawn Cemetery.
Mr. Boles died Saturday evening
near Klondike.
He was bom June 4,1938, in Lib-
erty Grove, to E.W. (Lige) and Imo-
gene Maynard Boles. He married
Peggy Slayden on Nov. 26,1959. She
survives.
Mr. Boles had been employed by
Campbell Soup in Paris for the past
26 years. He was the sales manager.
He was a member of the Red River
Valley Tractor Chib, he served on die
board of directors of Patterson
Memorial Museum and was a direc-
tor of the Liberty Grove Association.
Survivors include two sons, Keith
Boies of Cooper and Kevin Boles of
Garland; one daughter, Kenda Boles
of Cooper, two brothers, Jackie Boles
of Sulphur Springs and Mike Boles
of Cooper; three sisters, Carolyn Irv-
ing of Cooper, Linda Mobley of Paris
and Vickie Morris of Brashear; and
one grandson, Zachery Boles of
Cooper.
Donald R. Allen
Funeral services for Donald R.
Allen, 58, of Cumby, were conducted
Monday, June 17, in Tapp Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. Henry Grubbs
officiating.
Burial was in Brashear Cemetery
with Dan Friddle, Gary Friddle, Dan-
ny Friddle, Joe Friddle, James Sims
and Buff Tucker serving as pallbear-
ers.
Mr. Allen died at 6:50 p.m. Satur-
day in Hopkins County Memorial
Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was bom May 8, 1933, in Sul-
phur Springs, to Robert and Cora
Davis Allen. He married Frances
Jane Utley on April 19, 1955, in
Hopkins County. She survives.
Mr. Allen was a retired carpet
installer. He was a Navy veteran of
the Korean War.
Other survivors include one son
Jody ADen of Commerce; one daugh-
ter, Donna Underwood of Cumby,
three brothers. Nelson Allen and Max
Allen, both of Quinlan, and Wilburn
Allen of Alabama; two sisters,
Frances Jo Taylor of Quinlan and
Opal Ballard of Fart Worth; and three
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two
asters and one brother.

Mark Gammill, Terry Bolton, Mike
Ezell and Norman Green.
Mrs. Romack died Tuesday in a
Sulphur Springs nursing home, fol-
lowing an extended illnesss.
She was bora Aug. 7, 1915, in
Cumby.
Mrs. Romack was a cashier in the
cafeteria of Hopkins County Memo-
rial Hospital. She was a member of
Wesley United Methodist Church and
a lifelong resident of Hopkins Coun-
ty-
Survivors include one son, Hal
Romack of Winnsboro; and two
grandsons, Greg Romack of Sulphur
Springs and Jeff Romack of Arling-
ton.
