car was a total wreck, but
fortuhately. they had no in-
juries, and their home was
okay.

did not fare so well. They
heard the .storm coming and
jumped into a tiny closet.
When the storm subsided the
walls and ceiling o' the closet
v'ere still standing, but the
door and roof was ripped off.
Their' house, furniture, car-
port, pickup and car was total
loss, and they had only the
clothes they were wearing.
Oleta Weir was her former
name and is the daughter of
the late Ruth and Hub Weir.

Senior Citizen of the Year.
Saturday night, game night
was enjoyed by a nice group.

The Rev. Charles Jones
came to get his mother, Beu-
lah Randolph on Wednesday,
to spend the Easter holilays
with he and his family in Fort
Worth. A daughter of Marfa,
Margaret Allison met her
mother there on Friday. They
all attended church services
Easter Sunday with Rev.
Jones and family and visited
other relatives.
Paul and Valerie Moore of
Mesquite came to their mo-
bile home Thursday for a long
weekend. Easter Sunday they
invited their relatives of the
Joe Blount family, George
Moofl|r family to a covered
dish picnic and egg hunt, at
their place. There were 66 in
attendance and it was voted
to be a nannual affair.
Flossie Bassham attended
Methodist services here and
church services at Baptist
church, then had lunch with
Bud and Velva Emerson. Oth-
ers there for lunch were El-
roy, Nancy, Donna, Billy and
Roy Wayne Emerson. Flonnie
- visited Avo Martin before re-
turning home to Sulphur
Springs.
Birtie Chester has been dis-
missed from the hospital to
home of a daughter Sue Wells
of Lancaster.
Blanch Dorman has also
been dismissed to home of a
daughter, Glenda of Dallas.
There will be a cemetery
working on Saturday, April 21
as early as possible. A cover-
ea dish lunch’ is planned for
noon of that day at the Com-
munity Center.
The Young Homemakers
will sponsor a free health
clinic at the Center on May
10 from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone

Mike Payne of Marshall, .son

Jefferson St., and the late John
W. Payne, has been promoted
to sergeant by the Texas
Department of Public Safety.
Payne, a 1970 graduate of
Sulphur Springs High School
and a firmer student at East
Texas State University, is a
1973 graduate of the DPS Law
Enforcement Academy in
Austin.
Sergeant Payne has been
transferred to Laredo from
Marshall following his
promotion. The 27-year-old
sergeant will be replacing Sgt.
Richard G. LlNoir, who is
being transferred to the DPS
station at Richmond.
Payne’s wife Sally, a native
of Marshall, will join her
husband in Laredo.

High School, recently return-
ed from a unique government
study program in Washing-
ton, D. C.
The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Hargrave is now a
senior at McCamey High
School, where she was select-
ed to attend the Presidential
Classroom for Young Ameri-
cans as a member of the
Classroom’s National Student
Body.
Janice was a member of the
Latin Club while attending
Sulphur Springs High School.
In McCamey, she is a mem-
ber of the Future Teachers
Association, Library Club,
Speech Club and Pep Squad.
She is a member of the Stu-
dent Council.

MRS. BILL Jack Hathcox
of Sulphur Springs sprinted
after a fly ball in a family
baseball game Easter and
wound up in Citizens General
Hospital in Greenville. She
tripped while making the play
anl snapped a bone above the
ankle. The surgical procedure
to set the leg for Margie
Dale, as her friends call her,
was scheduled Monday after-
noon. She is in Room 141.

Bert Davis, formerly of Sul-
phur Springs who is the gen-
eral sales manager for the
firm, is spearheading ar-
rangements for the events.
JAMES B. PINSON, a son of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pinson,
route 3, Winnsboro is among 100
students at Baylor University
selected to receive a $500'
scholarship from the Baylor
Student Foundation for the
1979-80 school year. The awards
are based on scholarship, need
and campus, church and city
involvement.
