With the opening of the new
school year, the FFA had an
organizational meeting
Tuesday in the agriculture
room. The FFA chapter will be
selling magazines and any one
who would like to help support
the chapter by subscribing for a
magazine may give sub-
scription to any FFA member.
Officers for the 1978-79 school
year were elected. Scott Lee as
president; Tim Floyd, vice
president; David White,
treasurer; Kenny Renshaw,
reporter; Steven Hammond,
secretary; Anthony Base,
sentinel.
Richard Lee, vocational
agriculture teacher at Saltillo
High School for the past nine
years, was elected president rtf
the Paris District Vocational
Agriculture teachers at the
recent Vo-Ag Teachers' con-
ference in Fort Worth. Tlie
Paris District is composed of
all schools in Hopkins, Delta,
I .a mar, Red River, Franklin,
Titus and Camp counties. Mr.
lee was lucky enough to draw
both a dairy scramble chance
and a bed scramble chance
while at the Vocational Ag.
Teachers' Conference in
August. The scramble chances
will be at the Houston Livestock
Show this coming year.
The golden anniversary of
FFA commemerating 50 years
of service to youth enrolled in
Vocational Agriculture in the
state of Texas was celebrated
at the State FFA Convention in
San Antonio. Anthony Base and
Scott Lee served as voting
delegates at the convention.
From the Saltillo Chapter
Ricky Lee was the recipient of
the coveted 98,000.00 Houston
livestock Show Scholarship.
Ricky is now enrolled in Texas
A&M University.
The SaltUlrt'Beta Club is
putting out a good weekly
publication again this year.
Officers for the 1978-79 school
year are Janice Edwards,
president; Kathy Garmon, vice
president; Tammie Goodwin,
reporter; Lisa Garmon,
secretary-treasurer.
The Junior class is searching
for ways to make money to pay
for the Junior-Senior banquet
Anyone having any jobs that
they want done contact the
Junior class.

visited Mrs. Ruby Sparks in
Sulphur Springs Wednesday
night and attended the monthly
dinner at the Wesley United
Methodist church.

Paul Arthur underwent
surgery on his back in Houston
last Wednesday. This is the
second operation on his back.
He is not doing very well. His

in August
The Department of Public
Safety reports that troopers
working out of the Sulphur
Springs Regional Office
arrested 497 offenders
during August
Eleven of those arrests
were for driving while in-
toxicated, 405 were for
hazardous moving violations
and 81 for non-haxardous
traffic violations. There was
one criminal arrest by
troopers.
Property damage ac-
cidents accounted for 18 of
the 28 accidents Investigated
by troopers. There were two
fatal accidents with two
persons killed and eight
injury accidents with 17
persons injured.
Troopers issued 127
warning tickets and assisted
eight motorists during the
month.
Rhubarb, meaning a noisy
argument or quarrel, comes
from the custom in the the-
ater, radio and movies of
saying "rhubarb” over and
over again to simulate angry
and menacing talk in crowd
scenes.
