COLLEGE NIGHT - Texas colleges were represented,
Thursday night, at Livingston High School College and
Career Night. Baylor University, along with 12 others set up
shop in the halls at the school.

LIVINGSTON - College represen-
tatives, business people, profes-
sionals and UJS. military represen-
tatives wore on hand, last Thursday
night to answer any questions
students or their parents may have
during College and Career Night at
Livingston High School.
Visitors browsed from room to
room, receiving a i>hort introduction
to various professions and fields of
interests.
College representatives set up
tables in the hallways loaded with
brochures and financial informa-
tion. Represented were: Stephen F.
Austin, ITT, Houston Baptist, TSTI,
Lamar University, Angelina Col-
lege, Lon Morris, East Texas Bap-
tist, Texas AIM, Tyler Junior Col-
lege, Baylor University, Deny, Sam
Houston Mate University.
Professions represented included:
Game warden, banking, accounting,
nursing, EMT, Journalism, op-
tometry, physical therapy, beauti-
cian, and law enforcement.
Local service and employment
representatives Included: Sam
Houston Electric Co-op, Department
of Human Resources, TDC, and
Texas Department of Health.
Military branches represented
were: Marines, Air Force, Army,
Navy, and Coast Guard.

LJHS Student Council donates to library
LIVINGSTON - Livingston Junior
High Student Council recently con-
ducted a fundraising project to help
buy booki for the Livingston
Primary School Library. Being the
newest school in Polk County, the
library falls far short of the state re-
quirement of 10 books per student.
Each homeroom who donated (10
during the fundraising drive con-
tributed s book in their name to the
library.
Hotnerooma meeting the $10 goal
included: JoAnn Alcorn, Sue
Brooks, Margaret Nathaniel, Vickie
Buah, Kathy Burchfield, Chris
Cronin, Carol Hawkins, Ruth Ann
Winters, Don Westbrook, Julie
Willis, Mark Oakman, Shellie
Hullihen and Phyllis Harrell.
Homerooms contributing funds were
those of: Raymond Hall, Ellen Janas
and Diane Tipton.
Student Council donated enough
money to raise Junior high total con-
tributions to 0300.

on hand, Thursday, to answer questions related to their field.

LIVINGSTON - “I’ve been doing
Black History research since I was
eight or nine years old,” said
Charles Ryans of Livingston. He
started his study when he visited the
book mobile sent around in the '80s,
he said.
Ryans will obeerve February as
Black History month by sharing
what he has collected with the rest of
Polk County through an exhibit
Saturday, Feb. 24 at Lfringrton
Auditorium. Everyone to invited to
Ae a chad, Ryans said he believed
there was more to be learned about
black accpmplishments than was
being taught in the history books
through the school system. His
curiosity led him to the accumula-
tion of “stacks and stacks” of books,
information and artifacts that will
be on display at the City Bali this
weekend.

will show facts and flguree about the
history of black people in thia com*,
