Drink taxes bring nearly $2,000
Assistance •recognized
LIVINGSTON - Just over
$13,000 in mixed drink sales
taxes were collected in Polk
County during the first
quarter of 1981, according to
figures released this week by
State Comptroller Bob
Bullock. Of that amount 15
percent, $1,954, is being
rebated to the cities in which
the taxes were collected.
The City of Livingston will
receive $961 as it’s share of
the first quarter rebate,
reflecting a total mixed
drink sales tax collection of
$6,410. The City of Seven
Oaks will receive the next
largest rebate, $394. The
figure represents 15 percent
of the total $2,632 which was
collected through mixed
drink sales.
Corrigan will receive $116
as its first quarter rebate,
reflecting a total mixed
drink sales tax collection of
$775.
Bullock said collection of
the state’s 10 percent mixed
drink tax during the first
quarter of 1981 was up 29 per-
cent over the same period
last year. The state received
$28.5 million in taxes on the
sale of mixed drinks during
the first three months of this
year, hje.adjied.
He said his office is sen-
ding checks totaling $8.2
milEon to 211 counties and
371 cities as their share of
the gross receipts tax on
mixed drinks for the first
quarter. The state’s general
revenue fund will receive the
balance, $20.2 million, of the
tax money collected.
Texas cities and counties
receive a 15 percent rebate
of the tax collected on mixed
drinks sold within their
boundaries under the law
that legalized the sale of
mixed drinks in the state.
The mixed drink tax is col-
lected by the Alcoholic
Beverage Commission and
the city-county rebates are
sent out quarterly by the
comptroller’s office. Bullock
said first quarter tax collec-
tions represent the sale of
more than $285 million worth
of mixed drinks.
