The new principal of Livingston High
School, Paul Czerwinski, presented an
instructional report to the board con-
sisting of his plans for the upcoming
school year. The new principal told
trustees, by enlisting the teaching ser-
vices of coaches for at least one “solid”
subject, he has been able to reduce the
number of students in each classroom.
He added there are only three teachers
who are teaching subjects which lie out-
side their individual major teaching
areas.
Czei wmski also said he is in the pro-
cess of working out a bell schedule, in
which he proposes to stagger dismissal
times in hopes of relieving the traffic
situation at the high school campus. He
also suggested that a flashing traffic
signal or an officer to direct traffic be
added at the intersection of U.S. 190 and
the high school exit.
A low bid of $1,125, submitted by Col-
lins Roofing Co., was accepted for
emergency repairs of roof leaks in the
elementary and junior high school gym-
nasiums.

irustees also adopted updated
policies. The policies included a change
in the graduation requirements, to con-
form with a semester-type system to
which the district is switching this year
and the adoption of a student classifica-
tion policy. Two changes were made in
the honors and awardtfpoliey. The time
element for the computation of grades
was changed and it was decided that
grades earned in physical education
and athletic classes would not count
toward honors. A student absence
policy was also adopted.

A salary increase for teachers was
also approved during Thursday night’s
board meeting. Professional, or cer-
tified teachers, will receive an increase
of $500 in their annual salary. Non-
certified instructors will receive an in-
crease of $300.
Trustees approved district participa-
tion in a community education program
for the coming school year. Although
the district has offered a few adult
education programs in the past, there
has been no organized program and
Thursday’s action represents
something new for the community, ac-
cording to Cockrell. The program,
which is partially funded by the state, is
designed to provide a better coordina-
tion between school-community ac-
tivities, he added.
In other business, the board voted to
move the third grade classes into the in-
termediate school building, deed a strip
of land on the elementary school cam-
pus to Citizens State Bank, reviewed
and approved a report on the district's
summer maintenance program and
voted to approve this year’s student and
teacher handbooks. There are no major
changes in policy this year, according
to the superintendent.
In personnel matters, the board hired
Sue Harris as a high school English
teacher and Sandra Welch as an
elementary teacher.
