Sidewalk sale?
As approved by the commissioners court recently, work has
begun on the replacement of the sidewalks on the south and
east sides of the Polk County Courthouse. If weather permits,
the work should be complete within the next few weeks.
Carby guilty; given probated jail sentences
LIVINGSTON - Joseph
Patrick Carby was given a
five-year probated jail
sentence Thursday in
District Court in Livingston
after pleading guilty to
charges of burglary of a
habitation.
In addition to the proba-
tion, Carby was ordered to
pay a $500 fine, court costs
and restitution.
In other district court ac-
tion, Linda Coplin pled guilty

Felony theft charges filed
against Iris Taylor Bailey of
Corrigan were reduced Mon-
day to Class C misdemeanor
charges. After the reduction,
Bailey entered a guilty plea,
was fined $50 and ordered to
pay court costs-and $996 in
restitution.
Bailey was charged in con-
nection with the theft of
public assistance treasury
warrants and authorizations
to purchase food stamps.
The thefts were alleged to
have occurred on Nov. 5,
1977, Dec. 5,1977, Jan. 5,1978,
March 5, 1978 and June 5,
1978.
In other recent court ac-
tions, rape charges against
Joe Richard Mays of Liv-
ingston and Booker T.
Thomas of Leggett were
dropped when the two
entered guilty pleas to
charges of burglary of a
habitation.
Mays and Thomas were
each given seven years pro-
bation, fined $50 and ordered
to pay $50 in restitution.
The two were charged in
connection with a May 18 in-
cident.
William E. Schiele of
Onalaska entered a guilty
plea to charges of burglary
of a habitation after a second
charge of theft was dropped

John Forsythe.
Sammy Earl Cardan pled
guilty to theft charges in con-
nection with an incident Oct.
20, 1979 during which an
automobile belonging to
Pete Peterson was stolen.
Cardan was placed on pro-
bation for five years, fined
$100 and ordered to pay
$622.98 in restitution.
James A. Ryan entered a
guilty plea to criminal
mischief charges and was
sentenced to three years pro-
bation, fined $300 and
ordered to pay $200 in
restitution.
Ryan “was charged in con-
nection with a May 19 inci-
dent during which a house
belonging to Leah Sanders
was damaged.
