Chicago, 111., May 7.—Police Captain
John Ptacek, a member of the depart-
ment since 1881, majle bank deposits
of'$227,000 in the last five’years, ev-
idence presented a special grand jury
investigating alleged police graft was
said to have disclosed Thursday.
Ptucek’s salary is $1,000 a year.
Since Jan. 1, it was said, he has de-
posited $15,000 in his bank.
Evidence showed, however, that
Captain Ftacek’s present bank balance
is “relatively small” and that during
the five year period heavy withdraw-
als were made nil the time.

Honors Mrs. Larkin
Mrs. T. O. Johnston entertained
with a lovely 3-course dinner Thurs-
day evening, honoring Mrs. M. E. Far-
kin of Pittsburg. The lovely color
scheme of white and rose, was car-
ried out in all the rooms with beau-
tiful bowls and baskets of white Am-
erican roses and pink radiance roses.
