Texas Shrimp Producers
To Hold Protest Meeting
BROWNSVILLE, Tex (UP).—
A meeting of the Texas Shrimp
Producers Association is set to-
night m Brownsville to protest
reported Mexican seizures of
nets from four American shrimp
trawlers Bascom Cox of Browns-
ville. attorney for the association
said four vessels from Port Isa-
bel and Brownsville were stop-
ped by Mexican authorities in
the Tampico area of the Gulf
last week. Cox said the four ves-
sels had returned to their home
ports yesterday and their cap-
tains had reported the seizures
of the nets. Cox said seamen
from a Mexican tugboat board-
ed the American crafts and dc-
manded that the American cap
tains sign statements admitting
that they were fishing within
Mexico’s territorial waters. Cox
said the Mexican crewmen prom-
ised not to confiscate shrimp,
catches if the American captains
would sign the statements. £ox
said that after the American
captains had signed the papers,
the Mexicans took only their
nets - not their catches.
