From page 2-
In fact, this fight has been
going on even before there was
a Jamestown or a Plymouth. It
dates, at least, to the reign of the
first Queen Elizabeth, when the
Tudor royals decided to place
more power in the hands of the
common people in order to off-
set the power of the aristocracy.
And now, 500 years later,
here we are - with some of us
griping about how we don’t
want to be Americans anymore.
Well, our ancestors griped
about the same things, when
they were English, or Welsh, or
Scots. They griped about the
same things when they were
colonial Americans. They
griped about the same things
when they were Rebs or Yanks.
Now, we’re Texans.
It’s all the same argument,
only the faces, and places, and
dates have changed.
I don’t want to give up on
America. It’s been my country
all my life. It was my family’s
country since it started. It was
Davy Crockett’s country, and
Sam Houston’s. It was Audie
Murphy’s country, and Dwight
Eisenhower’s and Chester
Nimitz’ country.
Fighting the good fight
never means abandoning your
country.
That’s not patriotism.
That’s just called quitting.
