BROOKELAND-The defend-
ing Division 11 Gass 1A state
champion Goodrich Hornets
wrapped up the District 29-A
championship by defeating the
Brookeland Wildcats 69-54 in the
season finale Tuesday in
Brookeland.
It was the Hornets second con-
secutive district title and their 14th
straight year to make the Gass 1A
state basketball playoffs.
Goodrich, 29-2 for the’ year,
started strong on the Wildcats home
court by depositing 20 points in the
opening quarter. They added 13
more in the second frame to lead
33-14 at halftime.
Josh Venson was the Hornets
leading scoter with a game high 31
points. Venson hit 13 field goals
and 5-of-13 free throws.
Tim Grant pitched in 13 points,
followed by Randy McGowen with
10. Others to tally for the Hornets

Coach Robert Wilcox has resigned and accepted a job as head football
coach and athletic coordinator at McNeil High School in Round Rock.
Wilcox coached the Hornets the past two football seasons, leading the
