Death Lode the highways last
Saturday night and claimed the
lives of two young men in a crash
west of Tarpley on the Tarpley-
Ctopia road, and sent one youth
to the Peterson Hospital in Ren-
ville.
Robert Howard Fears, age 20,
student of the University of
Houston and Bobby Jack Bruner,
age 22, of Fort Worth, and also
a student at the University of
Houston were killed outright in
the crash. Young Billie Wayne
Young of Fort Worth and driver
of the car was critically injured.
The three young men \yere re-
turning from a week-end vacation
trip to old Mexico when the acci-
lent occured.
A Plummer ambulance picked
up the bodies-, and took them to
Renville where the body of young
Fears left Renville by plane for
Gloversville, New York, Monday
and for funeral services in the
Prospect Hill cemetery on Tuesday.
He was the son of Mr.’ and Mrs.
Howard Fears.
The body of Robby Jack Bruner
was taken by Smith ambulance to
his home in Fort Worth for burial.

Miss Jane Hatfield
Miss Jane Hatfield, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hatfield,
2551 West Summit, San Antonio,
will be one of the Duchesses at
the A&M College Cotton Ball and
Pageant for 1957. She was chosen
by the Bryan-College Station Pan
American Round Table.
Her escort will be David Cunyus,
an A&M College Cadet, and son of
Dean and Mrs. Paul Cunyus of
Stephenville, Texas.
Miss Hatfield is a senior at
Thomas Jefferson High School in
San Antonio where she is secretary
of the Martha Jefferson Society,
a member of the Student Council,
a Lasso officer, and active in var-
ious other organizations. While
at A&M she will attend the South
of the Border Dance and a re-
ception for his Excellency, Sr.
Julio Lacarte, Ambassador from
Uruguay to the United States.
On Sataurday she will be honored
with an afternoon party by Misses
Helen Klipple and Sadie Hatfield
where she will greet many friends
and acquaintances made during
previous visits to College Station
and be the house guest of Miss
Hatfield.

YARBOROUGH WINS BY BIG
MAJORITY IN SENATE RACE
Voting was light Tuesday in the
special election held to choose
man to fill the un-expired term of
United States Senator, the place
made vacant by the resignation
Price Daniel when he decided to
run for the Governorship.
Complete returns from Bandera
county showed that Thad Hutche-
son led with 246 votes. Votes
tabulated for tfie county arc as
follows; Adams, 2; Rracewell,
Burns, 1; Dies, 250; Ford, 3; Hart,
5; Oms, 1; White, 8; Willis. 1
Wilson, 2; and Yarborough, 107
Democrats assured the control
of the senate with the election
Ralph Yarborough, who has been
defeated in four previous elections.
Yarborough received a majority of
votes in the state.

gathered last Sunday at Plummer
Funeral Home to pay their last
respects to Harold W. Mansfield,
who died Saturday in Galveston.

Harold Wilbur Mansfield was
born here in Bandera on April 2.
1906, the son of the late Judge
and Mrs. A. 1. Mansfield. He at-
tended school here and grew to
manhood in this community wjtere
he had many friends and loved
ones. For many years he was a
member of the San Antonio police
department, hut at the time of his
death had been living with his
daughter, Mrs. Marvin Morgan at
1815 Avenue NT., Galveston, Texas.
TTe had been in ill health having
undergone a number of operations
during the past few years, none of
which cured his malady.
Funeral services wore conducted
in the Plummer Funeral Home

Manley Reynolds, pastor of the
First Baptist Church here, official

RATTLESNAKES ARE
CRAWLING
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hutcheson
and Mrs. Chipman were in town
Tuesday with two huge rattle-
snakes which were killed by Mrs.
Charles E. Hutcheson on the
ranch of the elder Hutcheson that
day. _ One rattler measured 4M:
feet in length and had 12 rattlers.
The other a three footer had 9
rattles. The two snakes were
found in a thicket by Mr. Hutche-
son and he called his dnughter-in-
law, who killed the two with a .22
rifle, Hubert Risinger reports
killing a big rattlesnake on the
same day at his home, also.
