Property tax payments
are due Friday, Jan. 31

Property owners are ad-
vised to pay property tax-
es early in order to avoid
longer than normal waits
in line at the tax office.
Property tax bills must
be paid before the end of
the day Friday, Jan. 31 to
avoid penalties and inter-
est.
Cass County Tax Asses-
sor-Collector Becky Wat-
son said with the dead-
line closing in, taxpayers
can avoid penalties and
interest by making sure
payments get in on time.
Property tax bills are
due upon receipt. The
deadline for payment of
property taxes in person
at the tax office is 5 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 31. Payments
by mail must be post-
marked Friday. Online
payments can be made
before midnight Friday.
Penalties and interest
for late payment will
begin Saturday, Feb. 1
at 7 percent. Penalties
increase 2 percent per
month until July, when

Allday earns spot in
ATSSB All-State Band
Andrew Allday, of the Atlanta High
School Band, was selected as a mem-
ber of the 2014 Association of Texas
Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-
State Band.
This is his second time to be selected
for this prestigious honor. He is the
son of Teresa Allday and Frank All-
day.
The ATSSB is pleased to announce
the selection of more than 9,000 high
school band students from across
the state auditioned in 20 different
regions for a place in their respec-
tive all-region bands. The top chairs
in each region advanced to one of
the five area auditions held this past
weekend across the state and only 290
of these 1620 students were selected
for all-state honors.
The ATSSB All-State Bands will
present a concert beginning at 9:30
a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Lila
Cockrell Theatre of the Henry B.

A wild fire broke out at the
intersection of County Road
4916 and Farm-to-Market
3719 on Monday, Jan. 20.
Due to high winds, a burning
trash pile was whipped up
and the fire jumped the road
endangering several homes.
Bloomburg Fire Department,
aided by Cass County Emer-
gency Services #2, Atlanta
Fire Department, the Texas
Forest Service and Texas
DPS officers, contained the
blaze in under two hours. No
structures were lost.

burglaries
in progress

Vigilant patrol and ob-
servation led to several
arrests in Cass County
recently. Sheriff Larry
Rowe said crimes of this
type have become far too
frequent.
On January 16, 2014, a
Cass County resident ar-
rived to check his build-
ing on County Road 2872
South of Hughes Springs.
He observed two white
males running from the
shop carrying unknown
items.
He notified the Cass
County Sheriff’s Office
at 3:51 RM. of the inci-
dent. Cass County Sher-
iff’s Office was assisted
by Hughes Springs Po-
lice Dept., they arrived
at the residence at 3:57
p.m. Two white males
were apprehended in the
woods by the building in
possession of a variety
of items belonging to the
complainant.
The two white males
were identified as James
Morris Davis, 39 years
of age from Daingerfield
and Michael Bryce Mun-
den, 23 years of age from
Hughes Springs.
Both suspect were ar-
rested for Burglary of a
Building and transported
to the Cass County Jail.
The arresting officers
Ricky Lewis and James
Rachel were assisted by
Hughes Springs’ officers,
Jay Cates and Randy
Kennedy.
On January 13, 2014,
Cass County Sheriff’s
Deputy, Johnny Bailey
while attempting to serve
warrants on County
Road 4230 arrested Josh
Ballard, a white male, 23
years of age after a short
foot pursuit.
Ballard was apprehend-
ed for evading arrest and
several Class C warrants.
With further investiga-
tion by officers Bailey a
stolen 4 wheeler was lo-
cated and recovered and
returned to its rightful
owner.
Josh Ballard was also
booked in on a Class A
Drug Paraphernalia.
Possession of Stolen
property a 4-wheeler is
pending.
