City Summary Released for June
City
Municipal Court
In the month of June, a total of
187 tickets were issued which
included: allowing unlicensed
driver, 1; driver’s license restriction,
$69,720.34 for water; $8,246.49 for
surcharge; $22,492.67 for sewer;
$38,622.36 for trash haul; $500
deposit for water tap fees; and
$1,250 for utility deposits.
The city mailed 590 past due
1; excessive accoloration, 4; expired/ notices. Thirty were cut off for non
payment; seven were rechecked and
cut off; one meter was pulled for
non-payment; 48 meters were re-
read; 24 were read and turned off;
42 were read and turned on; five
transfers were made; three water
taps were made; and three sewer taps
were made.
Water Department
During the month of June, the
Water Department pumped
63,525,400 gallons and used 489
pounds of chlorine.
They repaired two city main
leaks, repaired five service leaks/
repairs, flushed four dead ends and
repaired seven street cuts. There was
one main line valve installed, one
new service and six services
retapped/repaired. All water
samples tested good and 560 feet, six
inches of new mains put in.
At the pump station, 12 hours
were spent on pump and motor
maintenance and 10 hours of ground
maintenance.
Parks Department
In June, the Parks Department
spent 135 hours mowing, 604 hours
watering, four hours spraying weeds,
288 hours trimming, 27 hours
picking up trash, 87 hours of
maintenance, 20 hours in the
evening, 105 hours of sprinkler
system maintenance, 16 hours
hoeing and raking and eight hours
fertilizing the parks.
Refuse/Sanitation
The refuse and sanitation
department emptied 9,988
containers during the month,
repaired 10 containers and replaced
altered/no tags, 11; expired/no M.
V. Inspection, 20; failure to control
speed, 1; failure to yield right of way,
2; following too closely, 1; leaving
the scene of an accident, 1;
motorcylcle violations, 1; no driver
license/expired, 17; no liability
insurance, 52; red light/traffic
signal, 4; seat belts, 5; speeding, 35;
stop sign, 17; traffic/other, 2; other,
2; disorderly conduct, 1;
intoxication, 2; minor consuming/
possession, 5; ordinances, 1; and
minor in possession of tobacco, 1.
Dismissals recorded during the
month included 6 for defensive
driving; and 53 for proof of
insurance/ motor vehicle inspection
and valid driver’s license. Thirty-
seven warrants were issued and 28
were satisfied.
Revenue for the city was
$10,586.78 and $7,040.72 for the
state.
Police Patrol Operations
The Seminole Police
Department made 29 arrests during
June. They conducted eight traffic
controls and escorts, investigated
eight traffic accidents, and had seven
driving while intoxicated
complaints.
Overtime hours of 21.50 were
accumulated by all officers for
conducting investigations, canine
searches, court appearances and
public speaking.
During the month of June, there
were three assaults; three ‘other
assault-simple’; one unlawful
entry—no force; one burglary; six
larceny-thefts. Forty-seven offenses
were investigated and 34 were
cleared.
Animal Control/Code
Enforcement
During the month of June, 21
dogs and 34 cats were picked up,
bringing the total for the month to
55.
Sixteen complaints were
received, eight animals returned to
owners, 12 animals were adopted,
36 euthanized, three skunks were
disposed of and 17 carcasses
disposed of. Fifteen warnings for
dogs running loose were issued.
In code enforcement, 49 weed
code letters were sent and seven
abandoned/junk vehicle letters were
sent.
Fire Department
The Seminole Volunteer Fire
Department answered 12 fire calls
and four rescues in June.
There were five calls within the city,
weather watch on U.S. 385 south; a
structure fire at 311 North Main; an
electrical fire at 2200 Hobbs
Highway; a structure fire at 405
Southeast Avenue K; and an
electrical fire at 200 Southeast
Avenue B.
Seven calls in the county
included, six weather watches, five
in southwest Gaines County and two
in northwest Gaines County; and a
vehicle fire on County Road 304
Four rescue/assist calls were
made which included, the Andrews
Highway; County Road 301; County
Roads 304 and 307; and one mile
west on U.S. 180.
EMS
During the month of June,
Seminole EMS made 18 emergency
for 11 hours, patched 55 potholes,
spent 13.5 hours spraying for
mosquitos, four hours of
maintenance, 20 evening hours, 13
hours helping the parks department,
16 hours mowing right-of-ways, 127
hours patching street cuts, 21 hours
putting out emulsion and sand at
Southwest Avenues A and B, 22
hours trimming trees, 20 hours
balding the roads at the wellfield,
36 hours working on the roof at City
Hall, 32 hours working on the fence
at the wastewater plant and nine
hours of miscellaneous.
Wastewater Department
During the month of June, the
wastewater department reported
treating 15,200,000 gallons of
wastewater. They cleared five sewer
main stoppages, reworked/repaired
one sewer service and cleaned 3,300
feet of mains. They had 120 hours
of plant maintenance, four hours of
pump and motor maintenance and
eight hours of ground maintenance
at the lift stations. Average
wastewater flow was/507,000
gallons per day. " Landfill
Department
At the city landfill, they
operated the dozer for 28 hours, the
scraper operated 54 hours, and the
compactor 34 hours. They covered
and graded for 54 hours and spent
28 hours excavating trenches .
The landfill served 391 city
residents and 153 county residents.
Average tonnage per day was
22.97, while uncompacted tons in
the Demolition Pit totaled 185.47
and averaged 6.18 tons per day.

Obituaries
Anita Augero Gonzales
1970-2003
Services for Anita Augero, 33, of Seminole, were held Tuesday, August
5, at 3 p.m. in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel of Denver City with the
Rev. Gilbert Urias officiating. Interment followed in the Denver City
Memorial Park.
She was bom March 19, 1970 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Charlie and
Cleo Augero. She married Ruben Gonzales August 15, 1986 in San
Antonio. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two children, Ruben, Jr. and
Luckee Gonzales of Seminole; her parents, Charlie and Cleo Augero
of Seminole; one sister, Charla Acosta of Denver City; and an uncle,
Chris Aguirre of Seminole.
Pallbearers were, Roger Paul Garcia, Rodney Gene Garcia, Robert
Scott Garcia, Jacob Acosta, Marcello Acosta, Eddie Hilburn, Calvin
Leonard and Pilar Garcia. ’
Grace McCullough
1919-2003
Services for Grace McCullough, 84, of Seminole, were held at 10
a.m. today (Wednesday, August 6) at First Presbyterian Church of Seminole
with the Rev. Gayle Perkins officiating. Burial was in the Gaines County
Cemetery under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.
She died Monday, August 4 at Midland Memorial Hospital after an
illness.
She was born February 13, 1919 in Keller and married Buster
McCullough June 3, 1940 in Lovington, New Mexico. She was a resident
of Seminole 79 years, moving from Keller. She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church and a past member of Eastern Star, the Volunteer
Fire Department wives auxiliary and was active in the Girl Scout program
in Seminole. She was a big fan of Seminole High School football and was
named “Fan of the Year” in 1979. She was preceded in death by a great
grandson, Zachary Henson, in 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Buster, of Seminole; three sons,
Buster F. McCullough of Midland, Wayland W. McCullough of
Seminole and Jack A. McCullough of Odessa; two daughters, Toni
Grace Taylor of Houston and Brenda Danley of Midland; two sisters,
Coyet Miller of Seminole and Billie Mills of Amarillo; eight
