‘BLUE’ AND GREEN’
Anna Peters is pictured with her parakeets, “Blue" and "Green,” during
the presentation of Seminole's “Yard of the Week" Wednesday. The Peters
yard at 503 Northwest Avenue J, was chosen to receive the honor for the
week. Because of the shading of the front of the house by large trees, the
parakeets can enjoy the outdoors on the porch.
Peters Family
Given "Yard of
the Week" Honor
The yard of Anna and Jake
Peters, 503 NW Avenue J, was
chosen as Seminole’s “Yard of the
Week" by Seminole Garden Club
President Kaye Fisher.
Chosen because of the “cool
greenness of the yard,” the property
features cactus to help set off the
yard.
The Peters couple, along with
their sons, Roger, 17, and Randell,
14. have lived in the Seminole area
five years and at this home for two
years, eight months.
In addition to the cactus, a
striking feature of the yard is a very
large desert willow, two huge
Mimosa trees and a red tip photinia
shrub.
The shrubs are in front of the
house and the two mimosas flank the
front door, while a curved bed leads
from the driveway to the front
entrance.
There are also several varieties
of flowers featured in front,
including California poppies,
balsams, which were grown from

seed, zinnias, which capie up

(vinca minor and lesser
periwinkles), dusty miller and New
Guinea impatiens.
Ivy serves as ground cover and
continues climbing up one of the
mimosa trees. Vinca major (greater
periwinkle) is another ground cover
around the base of one of the mimosa
trees.
During the day, two parakeets,
“Blue” and “Green," can be seen in
a cage on the front porch enjoying
the outdoors.
