The Cooper ISD Board of Trustees
met on Monday evening, Aug. 13 with
a public hearing followed by a regular
meeting. Approved was the 2012-2013
budget which currently proposed totals
S3,573,206.00 (approximately $79,599.00
less than last year’s budget for direct in-
struction only).
“This category covers the salaries of
classroom teachers and instructional sup-
plies used by students,” said Cooper ISD
Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger.
“Our overall budget (with the teacher pay
listed above plus everything else such as
buildings, utilities, teacher training, cleri-
cal and administrative staff, custodians,
maintenance, buses, fuel, cafeteria and
food, special programs, extracurricular,
library, etc.) is a total of: $6,175,524 bud-
geted for the 2012-2013 school year. Last
year this total was $6,621,752 for a 6.7
percent cut overall.”
duce the state aid to schools by that
same amount). Now Edujob fund-
ing is gone it essentially leaves us
underfunded by $167,000. With
that added to our other cuts we have
a total 9 percent budget cut.”
Cooper Board President Thomas
Darden said, “It is a positive and
conservative budget.” He also ac-
counted the wise cuts by staff to the
expenditures as the reason the sala-
ries were not reduced. No public
comments were made.
Passing with a 6-0 vote was the
M&O Tax Rate of $1.17 per $100
and I&S Tax Rate of $0.32 per
$100. The $1.49 rate remains the
same as before despite the State’s
cuts to funding.
The Board also unanimously ap-
proved the final costs for the $33,000
demolition and $32,000 abatement
of the old elementary school along
with removal of four concrete pads
from former portable buildings.
President Darden discuss with the
Board the importance of nominat-
ing a representative for the Delta
County Appraisal District Board
with the school district having so
much vested in the accuracy of the
appraisal values.

Please mark your calen-
dars for Saturday, Aug. 25 at
6 p.m. everyone is invited to
attend the Annual Fish Fry as
a fundraiser of the Friends of
Doctors Creek Park.
Bring all your friends and
come join us for an evening
of fun at the First Baptist
Church. Enjoy a good fish din-
ner, lots of door prizes, cake
auction and visit with your

Office. If you haven’t bought

“We need your help now,
just as much as we ever
have,” said Gracie Young
of the Friends. “The Texas
Parks and Wildlife Depart-
ment may be in the process
of making necessary cuts to
meet the budget required for
the coming year.”
However, most parks, in-
cluding Doctor’s Creek, will
suffer budget cuts to both em-
ployee expenses and operat-
ing expenses.
The Friends of Doctors
Creek Park, Inc. was formed
in 2006 to support and keep
the Doctors Creek Park unit
on Cooper Lake fully opera-
tional and service to the visi-
tors that come to Delta Coun-
ty to enjoy the experience of
outdoor life.
The Friends fundraisers help
build the fishing pier at Doc-
tors Creek Park and we have
helped with various projects
in the past. Our support is
still needed and Christmas in
the Park is coming up shortly
and we will be there to have
another good year. The funds
secured through our events
and membership is always
and will be used to help the
park.
“We will be looking to live with
this reduced budget,” she said. “The
other factor mentioned last night is
that these figures don’t take into ac-
count the loss of Edujob monies that
were supplanted by the state (when
the federal government distributed
stimulus monies Texas chose to re-
