Peggy Denise Walker of Bryan was killed as a driver failed to yield the right
of way to a truck trailer at the four-way stop in Roans Prairie last Friday.
A female passenger
was killed after a driver
failed to yield the right of
way to a truck trailer.
Last Friday, Peggy
Denise Walker of Bryan,
58, was pronounced dead
at St. Joseph Regional
Health Center in Bryan,
an hour after the two-ve-
hicle accident in Roans
Prairie.
Texas Department of
Public Safety Public In-
formation Officer Jimmy
Morgan said retired, 80-
year-old driver, James
Ray Walker of Bryan,
was headed eastbound on
US Highway 30, driving
a 2003 Ford Taurus,
when he ran a stop sign at
the four-way that inter-
sects with US Highway
90.
The Taurus then col-
lided with a 2007 Interna-
tional truck trailer, driven
by Robert Joseph Morgan
of Plano, who was north-
bound on US Highway
90.
The car incurred major
frontal and passenger side
damage, including the
loss of the right front tire.
Amando Garcia of
Roans Prairie heard the
crash and immediately
called 911. Garcia also
grabbed a fire extin-
guisher once he saw
smoke rising from the
car, Examiner columnist
Mary Lois Boatman said.
The female passenger
was transported to the
hospital where Dr. Car-
away pronounced her
dead at 10:02 a.m.
Mr. Walker was also
transported to St. Joseph
Regional Health Center
in Bryan in critical condi-
tion with upper chest in-
juries and head
lacerations.
Morgan was not in-
jured.
According to a report
by Trooper Jessie Jordan
of Anderson, all three ac-
cident victims were wear-
ing a seatbelt at the time
of the incident, which oc-
curred at 9:05 a.m. The
posted speed limit is 55
mph.

• Monday, Oct. 21, at 6
p.m., at the Roans Prairie
Community Center, there
will be a Town Hall meet-
ing, sponsored by the
Property Rights Organiza-
tion. Special guests that
have been invited include
elected officials from
Grimes and surrounding
counties. The main topic
of discussion will be emi-
nent domain.
Recently, we’ve seen
notices in The Examiner
of land being taken for
just this purpose. In many
areas of our county, you
can see where pipeline
construction is cutting
into pastureland.
A Facebook page has
been set up at www.face-
book.com/texansforprop-
ertyrights.
• Tuesday, Oct. 22, at
6:30 p.m., at the Roans
Prairie Community Cen-
ter, there will be a com-
bined meeting of the
Tri-City Communities.
Any matters that concern
the area can be brought up
for discussion. There will
be dominoes and card
games for the adults and
board games for the kids.
Those attending are
asked to bring finger
foods.
• They’ve been work-
ing on State Highway 90
again, between Roans
Prairie and Singleton. I
wish they would find
some place other than my
driveway to set up their
“stop and slow” sign. Fri-
day, they didn’t start the
closure until noon, and it
was 6:45 p.m. before they
finished. Don’t those peo-
ple know that Friday is
football day, and the peo-
ple from Madisonville
were trying to get to
Navasota for the game?
• I have an idea about
how we can get our gov-
ernment back in business.
Those people that we
have elected to run our
government need to be
told that their services are
no longer needed; they
will not be receiving their
larger-than-life salaries,
big retirements and great
medical plans. They will
have to learn to live on
Social Security, with
Medicare for medical and
when they learn to get
along with each other and
act like responsible adults,
they can go back to Wash-
ington.
The main thing that is
needed for all of them is
term limits.
• I was so sorry to hear
that Robert Holt passed
away. He had such a great
sense of humor, especially
when he was telling sto-
ries. He was always de-
pended upon to be
“entertainment chairman”
for AARP, because he did
such a good job. Keep his
wife Pat and all the family
in your prayers.
Others that need our
prayers include: Florine
Hock, on the loss of her
husband William, Joe Be-
hand, Mike Greer and my
grandson, Christopher
Boatman, who had to
have kidney surgery in the
Children’s Hospital in
