Dear Editor:
The Scotland'Christian Mothers'
Society would like to thank everyone
from Scotland and Windthorst who
came to donate blood at the October
19th Red Cross blood drive at Scot-
land.
We had one donor who reached the
five-gallon mark, Mrs. James (Freda)
Schlabs and one first-time blood do-
nor. 18 pints were collected from 23
volunteers. Cookies were provided
by Granny K’s and Catherine Luig.
Catherine Luig, Evelyn Krahl, Priscilla
Stallcup and Whitney Stallcup volun-
teered their time to work at the blood
drive. Thanks to the KC's for the use
of the hall and for helping move tables
and chairs.

ducked assignments for what they
thought was a news program with no
future. Upon its premiers, sixteen
years ago, a prominent critic ridi-
culed it as "neo-news...news dressed
up in a clown suit and paraded in the
center ring." More than 4,000 broad-
casts later, Nightline has secured its
place in the history of journalism as a
unique source of news, insight, and
skilled verbal jousting. Every week
more than twenty-five million Ameri-
cans tune in. Here, rivals-physically
separate but united by satellite—con-
front each other directly, often for the
first time. Here is where complex
issues are clear, ideas count for more
than the mere clatter of conflict, and
perspective is brought to the com-
pressed world of television news. And
sitting calmly at the center is Ted
Koppel, armed with a skillful com-
mand of facts, razor-sharp interview-
ing skills, and unfailing radar for pom-
posity and evasion. Nightline: His-
tory in the Making and the Making of
Television by Ted Koppel, tells the
inside story of a news broadcast that
stands alone in its class and is now
available for check out at the Archer
Public Library.
