It’s not everyone who has
own fan club.
Especially not a baseball player
with one career home run in 2,911
at-bats and a lifetime batting av-
erage of .272.
But in the case of Emil Verban,
people are clamoring to join his
fan club.
Whodat? you ask.
Emil Verban, of course — the
man who played second base for
the Chicago Cubs during the late
1940s.
Despite his lackluster home run
average, Verban is the honorary
figure after which the Emil Ver-
ban Memorial Society is named.
The society boasts 280 members
and consists primarily of die-hard
Chicago Cubs fans, including Su-
preme Court Justice Harry Black-
man, columnist George Will and
President Reagan’s former press
secretary, James Brady.
As for the 68-year-old Verban,
he now sells real estate in Lincoln,
111.
He says he’s honored to have his
own fan club and claims, “It’s bet-
ter to smell the roses whi'e vou’re
alive than when your dead.”
Of his one career home run, he
says, “I never was a power hitter.”
Not even Rodney Dangerfield’s
psychiatrist gives him any respect
these days.
Says the Lite beer commercial
star, “I went ti) see my psychia-
trist and he told me I was crazy. I
told him I wanted a second opin-
ion.

He said, ‘OK, you’re ugly,
Professional golfer Lee Trevino
finally has found a woman who is
his cup of lemonade, so to speak.
The 44-year-old golf veteran re-
cently tied the knot for his third
time when he married 25-year-old
former flight attendant Gaudia
Bove.
Though the couple began dating
only last year, their relationship
dates back a few years. ,
Trevino first met Bove during
the 1968 Greater Hartford Open,
when the 10-year-old entrefirenuer
sold him a cup of lemonade.
It was Trevino’s second year on
the pro tour.
