In the pharmacy, a computerized system ensures accurate
and streamlined record-keeping for all prescriptions. A
medical expense summary of each customer can be prepared
either quarterly or yearly and is available upon request.
Shown behind the prescription counter is owner John Thomp-
With the children back in
school, it’s a reminder that
winter is closer than you
think. Heavy coats may be
far off still, but it’s not too
soon to be thinking of prepar-
ing the kids for the cold
weather bugs that go around
by getting them on a sup-
plemental vitimin program.
Livingston Drug has
recently introduced into
their regular inventory the
well known Nature’s Bounty
health products. This line of
vitimins uses no synthetic in-
gredients and no sugar or ad-
ditives. That characteristic,
plus the large variety within
this line, is one of the reasons
for the brand's renown, says
John Thompson, owner of
Livingston Drug.
“I don’t know of any other
line that is as complete as
this one,” he said. ‘‘That’s
one of the reasons we’ve add-
ed it for our customers.”
Thompson said that they
stock most of the line, and
what they don’t stock on a
regular basis is easily ac-
cessible.
“We also have literature
available that tells you what
each product is for and ad-
vice on choosing vitimins.”
Livingston Drug carries a
full line of cosmetics, gift
items, cards and other sun-
dries. The store also has a
convenient film-processing

You can also buy costume
jewelry and other gift items.
Anything purchased for J5 or
over is wrapped free-of-
charge at Livingston Drug.
Speaking of jewelry, Liv-
ingston Drug carries
Treasure Craft graduation
rings made by Josten’s.
There are many emblems
which can be added onto the
rings free of charge, and
they can also put your name
on them. These rings carry a
lifetime warranty.
Everyday pharmacy
items are now being
featured in an advertising
program in the Polk County
Enterprise every two weeks.
The store’s services in-
clude delivery, charge ac-
counts, insurance claims
and Prescription Card ser-
vice and filing claims under
federally funded state-aid
programs for agencies such
as Texas Dept, of Human
Resources, the V.A. and
others — on behalf of
qualified individuals.
New to Livingston Drug is
bookkeeper Sandy Fair, who
is a “returner” to East
Texas. She comes from Liv-
ingston but she has been
away for twelve years near
Los Angeles, and has been
back only about a six weeks.
Her and husband Ron Fair,
part owner of Fair Ice Ser-
vice, had talked about com-
ing back for a long time, and
Sandy says getting back
home “near family" is a
dream come true for them.
The Fairs have one son,
Steven, who is seven and will
be in the second grade this
year.
Old traditions along with
new renovations still live on
under the capable ownership
of John Thompson, owner-
pharmacist of Livingston
Drug. John and his wife
Lucy have two children,
Beth, 13, and Rick, 11. Mrs.
Thompson teaches music to
grades 1-5 and is organist at
the First Presbyterian
Church.
Thompson is an elder in
the Presbyterian Church, a
member of the Lion's Club,
past-president and present
consultant-pharmacist of
Livingston Memorial
Hospital. He is president of
the board of Murphy-
Memorial Library, and is
past president of the
Chamber of Commerce. He
has been Cub-Master for the
Boys’ Scouts in Livingston.
His hobbies include golf and
flying.
Taking care of your
prescription needs is Tom
Gardner, registered phar-
macist and former owner of
Gardner’s Pharmacy. He
has three children, Leah,
Thomas, and Laura. Mr.
Gardner is the son of Dr.
T.L. Gardner, who main-
tains an office in the
building.
Assisting in the pharmacy
is Tina Vaught, typist and
Debbie Lawrence. Annabel
Stevenson is cashier. Debbie
Campbell is bridal consul-
tant. Richard Randolph who
has worked in the store since
he was 16, is delivery and
general maintenance man,
he does just about
everything.
And it has been traditional
for some time for Janie
Marsh and Karla Hagemier
to help with gift wrapping
during the Christmas
season. Karla, says Thomp-
son, must be the only gift
wrapper with a master’s
degree. Another person who
will wrap this season is
Gracie Collins, who Thomp-
son says is the “premier gift-
wrapper in Polk County.”
Livingston Drug, which
has been in the same loca-
tion since 1900, (413 N.
Washington ) has a variety of
good and services. It is a
tradition of people who care
about one another - and
about their customers.
