RBI), Flores (1 for 3 with an RBI), and
Bobbitt (2 for 3 with 3 runs) provided
fire power as did Vardeman (a 2-RBI
single) to allow Holliday to score 2 in
the third, 1 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth,
2 in the sixth, and 2 in the seventh.
Holliday's nine base-hits and
Abernathy's 5 errors culminated in a
10-2 win for Holliday and sent the
series to Wichita Falls and eventually
Seymour. The win moved Vardeman
to 10-0 on the year with an ERA of
1.20.
The Eagles will now meet Coahoma
at McMurry's Driggers Field in
Abilene on Friday (tomorrow), at 6:30
p.m. Coahoma, which has been to the
Regional finals the last four years, and
advanced to the state tournament three
of the years, won the flip and selected
a one-game playoff, instead of a three-
game series. The obvious reason for
the choice is that Coahoma's senior
pitching ace has an ERA of 0.34 and
has given up just one hit in three
playoff appearances. In those three
games he has recorded 16, 17, and 18
strikeouts, respectively. "He’s a hard-
throwing (close to 90 mph) lefty with
a good curve ball," commented Eagle
mentor Terry Wolf, "but our kids will
find a way to get on base and get us
some runs.
The winner will advance to the state
tournament in Austin next week.
