64th Annual Rodeo but a memory Holliday High School
A good time was had by all who £ %J
UIL team too in State
A good time was had by all who
attended the 64th Annual Archer
County Rodeo.
The day began with Elder
Texan Day on the Courthouse
lawn. Along with old-time coun-
try music, the highlight was hon-
oring our senior citizens.
The parade on Saturday found
many prize winners. The 1st
place float was by First United
Methodist Vacation Bible
Schoolers, pictured below right.
The top decorated vehicle was
from our own Dairy Queen, pic-
tured below left. At left is the Red
River Riding Club, top riding
club.

Windthorst’s 4th of July picnic
The Historical Society of
Windthorst is presenting the sec-
ond 4th of July picnic and fire-
works display.
There will be a parade to be-
gin the festivities. The parade
will feature bicycles, tricycles,
and ubgons decorated with pa-
triotic colors.
There will be ceremonies at
the flag pole at 7 p.m. at the
cemetery area. This will be by
the VFW. The Patriot Riders will
be leading the parade and will
be at the flag pole area.
There will be a picnic with
hotdogs, chips, sliced water-
melon and water.
Bring your coolers, chairs and
any other foods you like, also
bring any games you may enjoy
playing.
The parade will form in front
of the old high school cafeteria
area.
Schedule
5 p.m. - Church Service
6:15 p.m. - Parade staging area
6:30 p.m. - Parade starts
7 p.m. - Ceremony at Flag
Pole, food to follow
7:15 p.m. - Goat scramble
7:45 p.m. - A 5-piece Gospel
band will be playing while you
eat at the picnic.
There will be no personal fire-
works aloud.
There will be a firework dis-
play at 9:30 p.m..
Parking at the east side of
school and by the football field.
Everyone is invited to join and
have fun.
Dance Friday night to benefit all Volunteer
Fire Departments in Archer County
A benefit dance will be held
tomorrow night, Friday, June
26th, at the Elks Lodge in Wichita
Falls. All proceeds will go to the
volunteer fire departments of Ar-
cher County.
Ray and Patsy Mayo of Scot-
land arranged the benefit. Buffalo

experiments
with science
Mad Science of Tarrant
County will be entertaining
young and old alike at the Archer
Public Library on Monday, June
29 at 3:30 p.m.
Mad Science conducts
educational, entertaining and
hands-on science activities for
children in libraries throughout
the area. They use exciting
activities and spectacular
demonstrations to capture the
attention and imagination of
children. Their goal is to spark
the curiosity of children and
instill a clear understanding of
what science is really about and
how it affects the world around
them.
Come enjoy all of the activites!

p.m., while a silent auction will
be ongoing from 5:30 until 7
p.m. At 7, a live auction will be-
gin, with the dance following at
9 p.m. The cost of the event is
by donation only.
Jake Hooker and the Outsiders
CERT
training
continues
The Community Emergency
Response Team training will con-
tinue on Thursday, July 9th at the
Archer County Activity Building
in Archer City. The training meet-
ing will begin at 6 p.m. and fin-
ish around 9 p.m.
Even if you missed the first
training meeting, you are wel-
come to join the team on that
date. There are many volunteer
jobs available. For more informa-
tion, call 574-2868
AC Boosters to
meet July 6th
The Archer City All-Sports
Booster Club will meet on July
6th at 7:00 p.m. in the school
cafeteria. Discussion will be held
concerning the Wildcat Football
Program, Meet The Wildcats
Night and various other
activities.
All parents of Archer City
Athletes are encouraged to
become booster club members
and attend the monthly meetings.

FSA/ACRE
meeting slated
for June 30th
Farm Service Agency and the
Texas AgriLife Extension are
hosting a Farm Bill Meeting that
will be held at the MPEC (Multi
Purpose Event Center) in
Wichita Falls on Tuesday, June
30th starting at 8 am. This
meeting will assist and educate
area wheat producers on the new
additions that are in the 2009
Farm Bill. The ACRE (Average
Crop Revenue Election)
program deadline is August
14th. Once producers are
enrolled into the ACRE program
they must remain under the
ACRE program until the end of
the current Farm Bill.

you have any questions about
this upcoming meeting on June
30th.
Blood Drive
reminder
The Red Cross blood drive
will be held at the First United
Methodist Church in Archer City
today from 2 to 6 p.m.
The Holliday High School
Academic team won the State
2A University Interscholastic
League contest that took place
May 25 and 26, at the University
of Texas in Austin. The One Act
Play, also a part of the team
performed May 27 and 28.
Holliday's score was 160 points
with second place Caddo Mills
scoring 109.5. This is the first
Academic State Championship
for Holliday High School.
On their way to the state meet,
Holliday won the District 5-2A
meet and the Region 1-2A meet
in Odessa. Twenty-six Holliday
High School students qualified
for the state UIL meet. The
coaches who had students
competing at the state meet were

Since 1958 Holliday High
School has won the District
Academic contest twenty-five
times, earning Regional
Championships in 1993, 2004,
2005,2006, a second at regional
in 2008, and winning regional
again in 2009. In 2006, Holliday
High School placed second at
the state meet.
Archer County 4-H Trap
Shooters sweep awards

The District 3 4-H Trap Shoot
competition was held on
Saturday, May 18, 2009 at the
Iowa Park Gun Club in Iowa
Park. Over 35 Archer County 4-
H youth competed in the day
long competition along with 140
4-H youth from 23 other counties
within the Rolling Plains District
3 of Texas AgriLife Extension.
It was hosted by the Iowa Park
Gun Club and the North Texas
Field and Stream Association.
The North Texas Field and
Stream hosted a noon barbeque
luncheon and awards program
to honor 4-H members and their
families. Numerous duties in
hosting a contest were handled
by volunteers and leaders from
4-H clubs, gun clubs and the
North Texas Field and Stream
Association.

presented awards to youth
participating at the conclusion
of the event.

individual shooter of the District
3 4-H Trap Shoot Contest was

he has been shooting for 6 years.
