sioner, Timpson Precinct No.
4, subject to the coming pri-
mary election.
Mr. Tyson is a native of Shel-
by county and has always
been active and interested in
the growth and development
of his county. He promises, if
elected, to serve the people
faithfully.
At a later date Mr. Tyson
says he will issue a written
statement to the voters.

COLLECTIONS IN
SHELBY COUNTY
Tax collections in %jelby
county for the month of Febru-
ary totaled $2,093.65, and
have been transferred from
the collector’s department to
the county treasurer. The ap-
portionment of the funds Is as
follows, according to Miss
Eleanor Patterson, treasurer:
Road tax, $812.50; county
ad valorem, $942.64; auto reg-
istration, $110.18; officers’
salary fund, $228.43.
$427.57 was collected in
February for the state.

have gone. An active intelli-
gent interest, in America’s for-
est problems, participated in
by ail citizens, is needed to
carry out a definite national
forestry policy for the United
States.
Dr. John Wyeth Ray
Far School Trustee
The Times is authorized to
announce Dr. John Wyeth Ray
as a candidate for trustee of
the Timpson Independent
School District, subject to ac-
tion- of the voters in the elec-
tion to be held April 6th.
Dr. Ray is qualified in every
respect to fill this important
office. He is a former teacher,
and is acquainted with the
duties of the office which he
seeks. He states that he will
appreciate your vote in the
coming election.

Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Cammack
of El Dorado, Ark., are spend-
ing several days in this city
visiting their daughters and
families, Mr. and Mis. Dewey
Parrish and Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Samford. They plan a visit to
various points in South Texas
before returning home.
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Mc-
Clellan and baby left Monday
for Taico where they will make
their home. En route they will
atop for a visit of a few days
with relatives and friends in
Tyler.
Mr. and Mrs. George E.
Green, Mrs. M. L. Green and
Fowler Green spent Sunday
in Dallas visiting relatives and
friends. Mrs. Fowler Green,
who has had employment in
Dallas for the past several
months, returned home with
them.
Joe H. Owen of Athens, field
representative for the Kraft
Cheese Co., was a business
visitor in Timpson Tuesday af-
ternoon.
CALEDONIA
Caledonia, March 13.—It
seems that almost everybody
was at Sunday school last Sun-
day, though, for all the 100 in
attendance, there were sever-
al who were ill, and some
away. We are looking for-
ward to a record-breaking
crowd next Sunday, which is
the day for our regular preach-
ing service at 11 o’clock and
evening service.
The young people of the
League group continue to show
great interest in their work
and in their play. Attendance
at worship services runs up to
and above twenty and a large
crowd gathers each Friday
evening for a play hour.
On Friday evening of this
week, at 7:30, the Council of
the Martha Stewart League
Union will meet at Caledonia.
This group includes twenty-
five or thirty young people
from this end of the district
Mr. and Mrs. Obie Swann
and their two children were
week-end guests of their moth-
er and brothers and sister.
They are former Caledonia
citizens now living in Houston.
It was a pleasure to have them
in Sunday schreil.

Singing Convention No. 1

The first regular meeting of.
Singing Convention No. 1 will
begin at Lone Cedar oh Satur-'
day night March 2Sj and con-
tinue through Sunday; the 24,
at which time iifntc'h will be
‘served to all visitor*'. ‘The time
has come" when no one com-
munity can care for the large
crowds that attend the singing
conventions and it is requested
that the adjoining communi-
ties and the general public
cone and bring lunch. Lone
Cedar has a nice large new
church and is a very fine place
for the convention. We have
the promise of a number of
quartets of the south, together
with all the host of singers
from throughout this section.

Honor Roll at TSCW
Denton, Tex.—Miss La Nell
Brown of Timpson has been
placed on the Dean’s honor
roll at Texas State Collage for
Women for high scholastic
standing in her work last
semester. Announced this
week, only the top ranking
eight per cent of the student
body qualified for the honor.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.
A Brown, Miss Brown is a
freshman student majoring in
library science.
Girls achieving this above-
average scholastic rating were
presented at "Honors Day”
here this week, when Associ-
ate Dean Jessie H. Humphries
spoke at the college assembly.
The tallest trees in the world
are the Giant Eucalyptus of
Australia, some of which at-
tain a height of 470 feet.

Funeral Rites For
Virgil Hill Held
At Nacogdoches
Wednesday Afternoon
Virgil Hill passed away
Tuesday afternoon at a Nac-
ogdoches hospital, and funeral
rites were here Wednesday af-
ternoon at 2 o’clock at Fair-
view cemetery.
The deceased is a brother of
Joe Hill, manager of Dent’s
Variety Store of this city, and
the young man was called to
Nacogdoches last Saturday on
account of ' his brother’s ill-
ness.
Miss Irene Johnson, Mr. and
Mm. Ira Jackson of this city,
and K. B. Dent at Tenaha, at-
tended the funeral services
Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Nancy A. Beasley,
81, of Arcadia .
Community Succumbs
Mrs. Nancy A. Beasley, 81,
for some forty years a citizen
of the Arcadia community,
died Monday morning at 6:20
o’clock. Funeral services were
held Tuesday afternoon at
2 o’clock at Fowdril! cemetery
near Arcadia. The Taylor Es-
tate Funeral home was in
charge of funeral arrange-
ments.
Mrs. Beasley was a native
of Alabama, moving to Texas
when a child. Friends of this
revered pioneer will regret to
learn of her demise, and ex-
tend sympathy to the sisters,
brother and other relatives.
Survivors include: Two sis-
ters—Mrs. J. T. McHouell of
Lufkin and Mis, Lou Wheeler
-of Arcadia; one brother—J. H.

ed to present lines. Service be-
ing considered, H. C. Meador,
manager of city utilities, said

miles west of town on High-

Center and Timpson highway,
for a distance of approximate-
ly three miles, Mr. Meador
