Cullman, Ala. on Tuesday and
from there they went to .Birm-
ingham, Ala., Thursday. Re-
turning to Cullman they left
Friday for Vicksburg, Mias.,
where they visited the Vicks-
burg Battle Field Park. They
returned to Timpson Saturday
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore of
Karnack visited Miss Iva Belle
Lowrance Sunday. - Iva Belle
and Mrs. Joy Wright of Pon-
tiac, Michigan, are her* for a
visit with their mother, Mrs. G.
W. Lowranco.

Frazier of Houston, for a two
weeks’ vacation trip. Points vis-
ited included San Marcos, New
Braunfels, Ban Antonio and
Houston. Mrs. Frazier returned
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester E. Pow-
ers of Wichita Fails, have re-
turned home after. a visit of
several days with Timpson rel-
atives.

Pfc. Billy V. Powers, who
has been stationed at Fort De-
vers, Mass., arrived last week
for a visit with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Emmett Powers. He
has been stationed there for
the past six months; basic
training was received at Fort
Bliss. Mr. Powers stated that
he would report later to Clark
Air Force Base in the Phil-
Hpines. He spent Wednesday
of last week in New York City,
and visited tire United Nations
building, RCA , Building and
many other points of interest
He stated that while there he
had the opportunity to meet
Steve Allen and Helen O’Con-
nell, and that two musicals in
New York were enjoyed, “My
Fair Lady” and ’’IiUJe Abner.”
Trip home was made by plane
via Washington, D. O’., Atlanta,
Ga^vand Birmingham, Ala., to

Funeral Services -
For Sid Stewart
Held at Blair
Funeral services for Sid
Stewart, age'72, of Timpson,
were held Tuesday afternoon
at 3 o’clock at Blair, the Revs.
F. A. McCann, D. S. Neel and
W. H. Magnesa conducting
rites. Interment was in the
cemetery at Blair. Taylor Fu-
neral Home bad eharge of fu-
neral arrangements.
Mr. Stewart died Monday
morning about 3:40 o’clock at
a hospital in Carthage., He had
been is failing health for some
months.
Mr. Stewart was horn near
Hope, Arkansas, May 10,1386,
and moved to Shelby county in
early young manhood. He had
made his home near Timpson
for about -46 years, with the ex-
ception of two years residence
to his native state dining that
time. He was a member of the
Baptist church at Blair.
Mr. Stewart is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Sid Stewart of
Timpson; two daughters, Mrs.
Thomas L. Campbell of Center,
and Mrs.. Henry Myers of
Timpson; one' grandson and
one great-grandson; also two
sisters, • Mra. W. B. Parker of
Jacksonville and Mrs. Albert
Johnson of Houston.
Pallbearers were: Harold
Boodell, Lee Roy Scott, Robin
Hooper, Claude Powirs, Em-
mett Powers and Ed Hughes.

boro, Arkansas, are here to be
with their mother, Mrs. B. G.
Kristenaen, who is ill.

made a brief visit here Tues-
day afternoon. t
Mr. and Mrs. Everetht Fini-
gan of San Antonio, and grand-
daughter, Mias Jo Ann Borns,
of La kin, Kansas, spent the
Fhurth ef July with Mr. Flni-
gan’s sister, Mrs. G. W. Cren-
shaw, and other relatives and
friends. They were accompa-
nied by Herbert Oliver of San
Antonio. Mr. Oliver and Mr.
Finigan were reared in Shelby
county.

Event Last Friday
A group of some twenty-five
girls and boys left; Ed Hooper’s
house last Friday around noon,
and rode horseback to the Co-
zart’s place near Gary. You
would think after such a jaunt
we would have been “pooped,”
but that was only a sample. Af-
ter eating a wonderful supper
of barbecued goat and Wans
cooked by Mr. Hooper. Several
of the parents came out to the
camp to see how our blisters
and bruises were. We all romp-
ed and played until 9:30, then
the ice cream arrived which
we really enjoyed. After a full
day we .bedded down on
blankets for a bed and our sad-
dles for pillowj (which should
be a little better padded, eh,
kids).
At6 o’clock Saturday morn-
ing the sun rose and eo did we.
While we saddled, our horses
Mr. Hooper prepared! us anoth-
er good meal of bacon and
eggs. After eating all we could
hold we cleaned up our camp
and beaded for home. We took
the long way around, arriving
in Timpson about 11. We pa-
raded town, dismounting at
Ed’s house. We organized a
riding club, named it the Shel-
by County Trail Riders. Offi-
cers were elected as follows:
