Plans For Compilation
of World War Two Records
Austin, Tex.—“Lest we for-
get” plans for compilation of
World War Two records,
county by county, announced
recently by the American His-
torical-Memorial Association,
are meeting with most favor-
able response and expressions
of statewide approval, de-
clares A. Garland Adair, pres-
ident, who is also curator of
History in Texas Memorial
Museum located on the cam-
pus of the University of Texas.
Commendation has come
from Senator Houghton
Brownlee of Austin, Senator
Brownlee, for more than a
year, has been actively plan-
ning for the assembling of offi-
cial records of World War
Two veterans and to him goes
the credit of being one of the
foremost advocates of the mo-
ment, Adair said.
The solon declared that “it
is high time for Texas to do
something worth while to hon-
or the veterans from the Lone
Star State, to preserve their
good names and to memorial-
ize their distinguished service-
records.”
He has been discussing these
plans with other Texas sena-
tors and, with their approval,
Senator Brownlee hopes to see
introduced in the next session
of the Texas Legislature a
simple resolution requesting
the War Department to coop-
erate in the immense task of
supplying the official roster
and reports of Texans who re-
sponded to the call of their
country in its hour of need.
H. L. Edwards of Kenedy,
executive vice-president of the
organization, believes that ac-
tion by the 9tate legislature
will prove to«be a “distinct
contribution to a patriotic
cause.” Such a movement can
be started most easily while
the war is on, although it can-
not be completed until after
the end of hostilities, he said.
Mrs. W. R. Hairston arrived
Friday from Chireno, to spend
the week-end at home.
