MISS FARM BUREAU CROWNED — fetes Cecilia Wharton,
dark-haired beauty from Timpson was crowned Miss Farm
Bureau of Nacogdoches county Tuesday night, August 7 in
ceremonies in Banita Ballroom of Hotel Fr dor.ia. Here she
is crowned by the 1961 queen. Miss Lera Stew rt following
the judge’s decision. She i* a sophomore home economics
major at Stephen F. Austin college and will enter the Dist-
rict farm Bureau contest to be held at the same site Aug. SO.
Cecilia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wharton of
Timpson. She was Sn3n iuwjorof the Timpson High School
Band 1960-61.
Hot Weather Brings
Heavy Demand For
Water and Current
Residents of Timpson are
using a third more current at
this time than they were one
year ago, according to R. L.
Chumley, superintendent of
city utilities. At the same
time the water department
is called upon each day to
supply more than 220,000
gallons of water, Mr. Chumley

Air conditioning and sprink-
ling of lawns due to the ex-
tremely hot weather has
caused a heavy demand upon
the city utilities. Mr. Chum-
ley and his able assistant C. A.
Rutherford are kept busy
meeting various requirements
in meeting local demands with
efficient service.
REVIVAL MEETING AT
COLD SPRINGS
; A series of revival services
will be held at Cold Springs
Baptist Church, near Garrison,
Sunday, August 26, through
September 1. Services each
evening at 7:30. Rev. J. R.
Guinn will bring the messages.
Rev. Charles Weatherly, pas-
tor of Black Jack Mission, will
lead the song services, It to an-
nounced by pastor Rev. Free-
man Fuller.

! Band Rehearsal
The Timpson High School
Sand had the first summer
band rehearsal in the band
hall Monday, August 13, with
all 63 band members present,
according to Bobbie Goff, di-
rector.
The baud is working on
music and marching for the
coming football season. Re-
hearsal is held each morning
at 8:00 a.m. One of the high-
lights for the band -for the
coming year to a trip to Austin
to perform at halftime when
the University of Texas plays
Tulane University on Oct. 6.

Coaches Return From
Coaching School
Coaches Preston White and
Kenneth Pannley of Timpson
High School have returned
from Lubbock where they at-
tended the Texas Coaching
School
Some 3,000 coaches attend-
ed, getting the latest on foot-
ball, basketball, etc.
They are busy getting ready
for the Bears first practice
session August 20th.
The Bears will open the
1962 season on September 7
when they meet Diboll at
Diboil.

O. W. Bussey, Ted Dent and
Jimmy Bruce Crump, attend
ed the annual encampment of
the Order of the Arrow for
the East Texas Area Council
at Camp Tonkawa last week.
’ O- W. Bussey, being a new
member, was initiated Into the
secret organization throogh a
series of commitments and in-
duction ceremonies. Along
with a hundred other Bast
Texas lads, O. W. became a
member of the Tejas Lodge
of the Order of the Arrow and
received recognition to that
effect.
Along with many other boys,
Bruce received the brother-
hood honor; Ted is soon to re-
ceive his.
The Order of the Arrow to a
•secret organisation founded
upon the principles of broth-
erhood and cheerful service
with emphasis on efficient
camping skills. It to often
called the "brotherhood of
honor campers.”

this week. Six twirlera and drum major of the Timpaon
band, are participating in the training program. The Twiri-
O-Jficks are noted for their precision marching and dance-
