Holland Girls Face
Crucial Test Friday
HyltONNIKI'KIlSKY
Salado's 32-23 win over Jarrcll last Friday sets the stage Tor another big game for the
Holland girls this Friday as they host Salado in what promises to be a close contest.
Jarrcll's 45-31 defeat of Holland January 1G ruined the Horncttcs' opportunity for a
perfect district record and the Salado win spoiled Jarrcll's chance for the same honor.
Now only Salado remains undefeated in district play which puts the pressure on for the
Holland -Salado contest.
Holland earlier defeated Salado 29-18 in non-district play and that fact plus the home
court advantage could give Holland a slight edge. Holland Coach Danny McCray
meanwhile still has hopes of taking the District 55B title outright.
His team's 50-28 win over Milano last Friday night gives him good reason for op-
timism. Temple Kallus who has really been In the fine form the last few games
dropped In 22 points in leading the win. Lou Mewhlnney and Sally Johnson also scored
in double digits getting 12 points and 10 points respectively.
Sally Johnson led the rebounds as usual with 14.
Holland shot 44 percent from the field - getting an outstanding 57 percent the second
half.
"We really looked good" McCray said of the Milano win. "We slowed the ball down
the first half then came out in a press the second half and really Jumped on 'cm."
Salado is led by senior Celeste Stewart 5'3" All-District guard and senior Katie
Black 5'8" forward also an All-District pick last year.
Junior Susan Headley 5'U" handles the post position with junior Morel Williams
5'4" sophomore Sandra Lange 5'5" and sophomore Margaret Edwards 5'7" expected
to see a lot of action.
With little speed Coach Dennis Cabaniss depends on defense to win ball games.
Salado stands 2-0 in district play having defeated Buckholts and Jarrcll.
Holland Coach McCray is planning to beat Cabaniss at his own game expecting a
tough defensive ball game. McCray praised Salado's Celeste Stewart saying she is a
good ball handler and plays good defense.
"But for them to beat us she's got toscore" he sold.
According to his plans the Holland girls will see to it that that does not happen.
A win by Salado would clearly put them in the driver's scat for the title. A Holland
victory would put the district race in a three-way tic among Holland Salado and
Jarrcll.
The contest will be held in the Holland gym with girls junior varsity action slated to
start at 5:30 p.m.

Black Spots
On Cans Mean
Harm
COLLEGE STATION
Black spots on the inside of
cons mean sulfur is present
but the food is still safe Mary
K. Sweeten reports.
Certain foods do liberate
sulfur and that causes
brown black or blue spots on
cans. Tomato sauce Is one
example.
However this condition is
not harmful to the contents of
the can she says.
Mrs. Sweeten is a foods and
nutrition specialist with the
Texas Agricultural Exten-
sion Service The Texas A&M
University System.
Although the discoloration
may occur in sealed cans
during processing a federal
regulation prohibits the use
of possibly dangerous food
containers.
Use of any food container
that would transfer a harmful
substance to the food in the
can would be a violation of
the Food Additives Amend-
ment of the Federal Food
Drug and Cosmetic Act Mrs.
