That list has included such names as Governor Dolph Briscoe Baylor Coach Grant
Teaf f former Governor Allan Shivers and Congressman W. R. Poagc.
After the main address five-minute speeches were made by Dr. Bobby Parker
President of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor; S. R. Greenwood Chairman of the
Board of Temple National Bank; and Andrew Lindcmann Bartlctt High School senior.
"One quarter of the people who ever lived are living right now" Dr. Parker said In
his opening remarks. He said this meant we now have more older people living than
ever before. He spoke on the need to tap the manpower of our elderly citizens which is
now being wasted.
Dr. Parker pointed out that many of the great men of history made significant con-
tributions to the world when they were well past the age of CO He cited as an example
Michelangelo who painted the celling of the Slstlnc Chapel at 90 years of age. He also
mentioned Thomas Edison Ben Franklin Colonel Sanders and Booth Tarkington.
In summing up he said we must utilize old age for "the betterment of mankind".
S. R. Greenwood who heads the governing council of the American Bankers
Association made several humorous predictions about Bartlctt for the coming year.
One such prediction concerned next years main speaker at the Stag Party.
"Next year's guest speaker will be the Dallas Cowboys . . . Cheerleaders that Is!"
He ended by saying we had much to be thankful for in living in the greatest free
nation in the world.
Andrew Lindcmann who Is president of the Bartlett High School student council
described his participation at Boys State last summer. Boys State is sponsored by the
American Legion and gives high school boys a chance to learn more about what makes
our government work.
Lindcmann talked about the various activities that were held and said he hoped
whoever attended next year would enjoy it as much as he did.
Toastmastcr Bunker recognized two of the toastmastcrs from the early days of the
Stag Party who were in attendance Thursday night. They were Alfred Wackcr
Toastmastcr In 1932 and W. F. Blair Toastmastcr in 1936.
Reporting for the nomination committee James Crews nominated Norman Thaler to
be toastmastcr for the 1979 Stag Party. Bobby Hill moved to accept the nomination by
acclamation.
Don Thaler recognized the out of town guests which included visitors from Holland
Granger Salado Little River - Academy Georgetown Helton Llano Round Rock
Austin Waco Gatcsvillc Killccn Rogers Temple and Taylor.
Joe Butler led singing of "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America" ac-
companied by Garland Knctcn on the piano.
Rev. Wesley Thompson of the First Baptist Church in Bartlctt gave the invocation
and Rev. Tony Hargrove pastor of the First United Methodist Churches In Granger
and Bartlctt gave the benediction.
A delicious meal of steak baked potato salad rolls and tea was served by Rudy
Mikcska of Taylor.

discussed. It was agreed by a
motion made by Norman
Langc and seconded by Joe
Cavanaugh to seek such a
grant to assist in the con-
struction and connecting of
water closets which were
approved in previous grant.
The balances in all funds
and accounts were noted and
approved. All bills paid since
the last regular meeting
were reviewed and a motion
to approve these bills as paid
was made by John Voight
and seconded by Norman
Thaler. All voted for the
motion.

business to be brought before
the meeting at this time the
meeting was adjourned at
9:30 p.m.

AUSTIN - Bids will be
received In January for the
widening of a section of
Farm to Market Road 93 in
Bell County.
The project will extend
from State Highway 317 in
Helton eastward to FM 017. It
will complete and improve
link from FM 817 to Inter-
state Highway 35 providing
badly needed additional
traffic capacity and im-
proved safety characteristic-
s CD. Handley the
department's engineer in
charge of the work said.
The existing facility will
remain open during con-
struction however traffic
may be slowed and motorists
in the Bclton area are urged
to use alternate routes while
the work is going on.
The work will be under the
general direction of Waco
District Engineer Brooks
Evans.
