Dedication Service
For New Church
at Term rupee
Dedication service for the
new Presbyterian church in the
Tennessee community will be
held Sunday morning, August
11, at 11 a. m., according to
announcement by Pastor D. S.
Neei.
The dedication sermon will
be delivered by the Rev. Neel,
and other minister* assisting in
the service will be Rev. Sam
Bice of Joaquin and Rev. Bill
Leonard of Carthage. ,
Power Service to Be
Interrupted Briefly
Sunday Morning
Electric power service will
be interrupted briefly Sunday
morning at £ :80 o’clock on
some Deep East Texas Electric
Co-op lines. Service will be off
for about an hour and • half
while equipment is being
changed in the SxP.A. Substa-
tion near Timpson.
Electrical service will be af-
fected in the Timpson area in-
cluding the town of Timpson.
These changes have been made
necessary because of the in-
creased electrical load in this
area. This early hour was se-
lected as the time to make the
changes with the least incon-
venience to the families affect-
ed by the power interruption.

TIMPSON HAS
FOUR CHAMPS
IN TWIRLING
Nacogdoches.—Timpson led
the roll of winners in the con-
test which climaxed the annual
Lumberjack Twirling camp,
with four champions hailing
from that town.
Other towns represented by
winners were Hemphill, with
two places; and Arp, Austin,
Diboll, Killeen, Mount Enter-
prise, and, San Augustine.
According to Jimmie M.
Hudgins, camp director, win-
ners of the contests which cli-
maxed a week of activity were
as follows: Outstanding twiri-
er-camper, Marilyn Mangan of
San Augustine; runner-up,
Sammy Smith of Hemphill;
Senior strutting, Martha Fuller
of Hemphill; Junior strutting,
Janiece Eakln of Timpson;
Senior twirling, Elaine Phelps
of Timpson; and Junior fwiri-
'i~ Jeannette Cooper of Aus-
tin.
The outstanding twirler-
camper received free tuition to
next year's twirling camp, and
each of the other winners was
presented with a new baton.
Try-outs for twirling posi-
tions with the Lumberjack
band were also held. Winners
were Patsy Patterson, of Timp-
son, head twirier; Delores
Hale of Arp, Doris Villamez of
Killeen, and Ina Dorn Bass of
Timpson, all of whom were
SFA twirieis during the 1956
oeason. Betty Brown, and Jean-
nette Barrett, who were also
named twirieis, come to SFA
for the first time from Diboll
and Mount Enterprise, respec-
tively.

Final Riles For Mbs.
Retta McKnight Held
Here Sunday Afternoon
Funeral sendees for Mrs.
Retta McKnight, -67, of Chan-
nelview, were held at the First
Christian Church in Timpson
last Sunday afternoon at 4 o’-
clock, with, the pastor, Rev. W.
B. Oliver, officiating. Interment
followed in Woodlawn ceme-
tery.
Mrs. McKnight died August
Srd in a Houston hospital af-
ter being ill sometime.
She was bom and reared in
this vicinity, and was the
daughter of the late John and
Sara Beckham. She was a prac
tical nurse and gave generous-
ly ol her time and means to the
sick and unfortunate.
lbs. McKnight is survived
by one sister, Mrs. Don Wil-
liams of Jacksonville; two
brothers, Hilton Beckham of
Houston and Victor Beckham
of Timpson, and a number of
was brought to Taylor Funeral
Home Monday evening to
await funeral rites.
The funeral service was held
at the Methodist church in
this city Tuesday afternoon at
4 o’clock, with the pastor, Rev.
Carl W. Brown, officiating. In-
terment was made in ’ Wood-
lawn cemetery.
Pallbearers were: E. W.
Crawford, D. A. HcClung,
George Hutcherson, U. S. Nel-
son, J. R. Paramore, Sam Mc-
Leroy and Louis Wortham.
Mr. McDaniel was a native
of Shelby county, waa born at
Center, but most of his life was
spent in Timpson. For several
years he held responsible posi-
tions with oil concern, operat-
ing in various Texas fields. In
addition to nerving in this ca-
pacity, he waa an independent
oil operator.
Survivors are hie wife; one
son, Sammy Me' Daniel, stu-
dent Southern Methodist Uni-
versity; one brother, S. E. Mc-
Daniel, Houston; mother, Mrs.
F. A. McDaniel, Center; five
sisters, Mi*.' M. A. Shaver,
Grand Cane, La. a Mis. Phronla
Pack, Mrs. Annie Rogers, Mrs.
Josh Taylor and Mrs. Grace
Bailey, Center.

received in Timpson on Au-
gust 7th.
The cotton crop in this area
is looking good, according to J.
D. Hairston, local, cotton buyer,
hut the size of the crop is yet
to be determined. Acreage al-
lotment, soil hand, and weath-
er, is to be considered, you
know.
