Ratcllc Not Ready
To Retire Yet
At the age of 39 center
Jean Ratcllc of tho Boston
Bruins who began his
NHL career way back in
1960 with tho New York
Hangers is playing it "one
year at a time" with no in-
tentions of trying to
match 51-year-old Oordic
Howe of tho Hartford
Whalers. "There's only
one Gordic Howe. Me? I'm
just going one year at a
time" Hatcllc said. "I'm
playing this year and
then if I play well and
help the team I'll play
again next year. After all
when you retire you re-
tire forever."
Slick Watts says he had
only 37 cents when he
made the Seattle Super
Sonlcs roster as a free
agent. Now after six
years in tho National Bas-
ketball Association 4'i of
them in Seattle ho is
without a job and ho in-
sists without bitterness.
"I can't complain" he
said. But he worries that
his separation from tho
NBA will become perma-
nent. He was cut by
Houston just before tho
season began and there
have been no phono calls
from other clubs. "I
should get a call" he said
slowly shaking his head.
"Really and truly I should
bo ploying right now
because I know very well I
can play in this league.
But I just don't know if I
will. It doesn't look good."
Slick never uses cuss
words.
