Residents began March with a sing
along Mrs Ella Brocks was here to
play the piano as residents sang along
to their favorite songs. Norma
Wiemers and Jim Barton accom-
panied on the guitars We all had a
really good time and thank all of our
volunteers for coming to share their
talents
Betty Strahan was here to help
with morning crafts. The yard stick
caddies are really pretty and an
attractive way to keep up with your
yardsticks Ttiey are on display in our
facility and sell for $2, if you are
interested in owning one. This is also
a nice gift item.
Our Easter items are also being
completed. For those of you who are
wondering about a special sale for
Easter, there will not be a special
day As items are completed they are
put in the display case and are for sale
now So come by and see these items.
There are bunnies, eggs, candy
containers, baskets, etc. All items to
complete your Easter shopping
Father Paul Cleary and members of
St. John’s Catholic Church were here
on Wednesday to have a mass with
residents. We really appreciate
Father Cleary and his members
coming to share their faith with
residents
A special thanks to Florence
Marquis, Ruby Teer, Mary Jane
Saathoff, Denise Watkins and Bea
Rihn for all their help with activities
this week. ?
Residents celebrated St. Patrick’s^
Day with a parade. AU wheelchairs,
walkers, and canes were decorated.
Even residents were decorated with
green ribbons, bows and hats. Even
though it was raining, we had our
parade down the halls of the facility.

The New Testament Church will
dedicate it’s new building Saturday,
March 23, at 5:30 p.m.
“We'll be marching from our old
W church on west 18th Street to our
new church on east 18th Street,” said
Pastor Ramiro Robles. “We will have
a band playing and members of
several out-of-town congregations
will be marching with us.
“We’d like to invite members of
other churches in Hondo to partici-
pate and to come ’see our new
building.”
The new ediface has been built by
the members as money and time
permitted, over a period of several
years.
"We thank God for our new
church,” said the pastor. “The
members of our congregation for
their offerings, and our many friends
who helped through our cake sales.”
Reginald Hernandez and Kelly
Courtney were united in marriage on
Saturday, February 16, 1985 at 5
o’clock in the afternoon The candle
light ceremony was held at Saint
Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church
in Huntsville, Texas. Officiating
priests were Father Domingo
Estrada, Father Brian Wallace and
Father Roger Temme
Parents of the couple are Mr and
Mrs. Vicente Y Hernandez of
D Han is and Janice Young of Kalama
zoo, Michigan and Kenneth Courtney
of Detroit, Michigan
The bride, given in marriage by her
father, wore an ivory satin Priscilla
gown with cathedral-length train and
a dropped waist The gown had long
sleeves with pearl buttons and a
square neckline with two Alencon
lace appliqued roses on either side of
the bodice. Her veil was a satin
wreath with floor-length netting and
ivory satin ribbons She carried a
bouquet of two dozen sweetheart
pink roses with English ivy
Musical selections included “Sun
rise, Sunset” by soloist and guitarist
Mark Wuenschel before the wedding
Processional was the theme to
Masterpiece Theatre. Gunod’s “Ave
Maria” was presented by soloist and
organist Mary Burdette and “By My
Side” was sung by Wuenschei
Recessional was "Prince of Denmark
March”. Trumpeter was Danny
Wilson and other singers were Amy
Fulton, Drucilla Reyes, Sandra
Stehling, Timothy Decas, and Chris
McLendon
Maid of honor was Julie Wame
ment of Houston and matron of honor
was Laurie Stroup of Dallas Brides-
maids were Cathy and Becky
Hernandez of DHanis; Patty Hunt of
Tampa, Florida; Ann Schoenherr of
Chicago, lllinios; and Mary Bart one of
Houston. The maid and matron of
honor wore pale pink taffeta ankle-
length dresses with lace bodices and
sleeves. They carried bouquets of
burgundy sweetheart roses and
baby’s breath. The Bridesmaids wore
dusty rose taffeta ankle-length
dresses with lace bodices and sleeves
and carried bouquets of white
sweetheart roses and baby's breath
Best men were James Seifert of
San Antonio and Rene Hernandez of
Huntsville. Groomsmen were Jaime
Courtney of Detroit, Michigan; Keith
Courtney of Kalamazoo, Michigan;
Brian Makins of Houston; Edward
Grant of Chicago, Illinois; and Leslie
Slaughter, also of Houston David
Chapa, nephew of the groom, was the
ring bearer. The groom’s attendants
wore pale gray Pierre Cardin tuxedos
with ivory wing tip shirts. The groom
and father of the bride wore Pierre
Cardin full dress black tails.
The reception, which immediately
followed the ceremony, was held at
the Low man Student Center Ball-
room on the campus of Sam Houston
State University. Music was provided
by the “Third * Coast” band of
Houston. The couple will honeymoon
in ( ape Cod later this summer and
now make their home in Huntsville.
The bride is a 1979 graduate of
Sturgis High School, Sturgis, Michi-
gan and a 1983 graduate of Western
Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
She is employed by Region VII
Education Service Center as a
teacher
The gioom is a 1978 graduate of
D Han is High School in DHanis, and
a 1980 graduate of Southwest Texas
Junior College. He is currently a
senior at Sam Houston State Univer-
sity and where he is employed by the
Registrar's Office.
Muscular dystrophy
drive planned
Hondo Police Chief Jerry Smith
said this week that members of the
department Explorer Scout Post will
be collecting funds for muscular
dystrophy Saturday.
Scouts and officers will be collect-
ing the funds at Wal-Mart and at two
other locations.
Jake and Joyce Meyer
Meyers
celebrate
anniversary
Jake and Joyce Meyer, former
nine-year residents of DHanis, cele-
brated their 25th Wedding Anniver-
sary on March 19, 1985.
A dinner and anniversary party
was held in their honor on March 17,
given by their oldest son, Mark, his
wife Kathy, and their two sons, Jason
and Bobby.
Attending guests, were the
Meyer’s youngest son and daughter,
THoy and Jody Lynn, and their
oldest daughter and her husband,
Jakelvn and Phillip Weirich. Also
attending was family friend Horace
Driskill.
Mark, Kathy, Jason and Bobby
wish them happiness for the next 25
years to come.

engagement and approaching marri-
age of their daughter, Melissa Ann, to
Stuart Wayne Nietenhoefer, son of

The bride-elect is a 1983 graduate
of Medina Valley High School and is
presently attending Tarleton State
University of Stephenville, Texas.
Her fiance is a 1981 graduate of
Hondo High School and is also
attending Tarleton State University,
majoring in Agricultural Education.
He will be graduating in December
1985.
The couple plan a June 15th
wedding at St. Paul Lutheran Church
in Hondo.
