JUNIOR MISS HOPEFULS... The 1984
Hondo Junior Miss, Jodye Sowa of D’Hanis,
left, greeted the five young ladies who will be
competing for the 1985 title last week during
a luncheon at the high school homemaking
department. Hoping to win a scholarship
presented by the Hondo Chamber of Com-
merce, and other scholarships sponsored by
area businesses are, from left, Natalie Ama-
dor of D’Hanis, Monica Manteufel, Tina Graff,
Gena Draker and Angie Gooding.

Mr and Mrs. Lawrence Weynand
were Sunday dinner guests of their
cousins Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Sampler
of Kerrvilie recently
Visiting with Mrs. Berta Britz this
past weekend was her granddaughter
and family Dannie and Andra
Parch man, Kimberly, Scottie and
Dana from LaPorte.
On Sunday afternoon Mrs. Britz
and her sister, Mrs. Sarnmie Schubert
attended a wedding shower honoring
her granddaughter Cathy Britz in San
Antonio.
Mrs. Marti Faignant and daughter
Mary Ann have returned, to their
home in Atlanta, Georgia after
spending a week visiting her
parents Mr and Mrs Skip Barchfeld
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Meredith of
McLean, Virgina returned home
yesterday after visiting the Barch-
felds. Mrs Barchfeld and Mrs
Meredith are sisters.
Mrs Pauline Scott and grandson
Scotty Mumme of Uvalde, Mr. and
Mrs. Don Scott and Kathryn and Mr.
and Mrs. David Scott and Cassie of
Hondo attended the wedding of
Marilyn Mumme and Joe Williams of
Austin on March 9. The ceremony
took place in the chapel at St.
Edward’s University with the recep-
tion following at the Hyatt-Regency
Hotel.
The Medina County Hometown
Club comprised of students from
Medina County attending Texas
A&M University honored their pa-
rents, former students and families
with their second annual barbeque
and dance on March 9th. The supper
was served beginning around 6:30
p.m. with the dance beginning at 8 A
short program before the dance was
presided over by Larry Stein of
Castroville, a graduate student at
A&M, who was later presented a
picture of buildings and activities at
the college in appreciation for his
leadership in the club The presenta-
tion was made by Tony Zinsmeyer of
D’Hanis, a former student. Also
making a talk on Aggie spirit was
Superintendent of D’Hanis Schools,
Maurice Zerr, also a former student.
Also introduced were dub officers
John Rothe and Chuck Zinsmeyer. A
very enjoyable evening was had by
all.
Mrs. John Gilhooly of Dallas spent
a few days last week visiting her
mother Mrs Herman Ney and othe’
relatives.
Mrs. Herman Ney spent Sunday,
March 10 in San Antonio where she
attended a surprise birthday dinner
honoring her daughter Mrs John
Poemer. Surprising her with the
party were her daughters Sarah
Poemer, Donna Mechler and family,
Lucy Needham and family of Austin
and her husband John Poemer.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Burrell
accompanied by their daughter Mrs.
J.M. Lindsey and sons Jay and Kevin
left Thursday and returned home
Sunday after visiting their other
daughter and family Mr and jfrrs
Joel Curtis, Jeff and Jennifer of
Chickasha, Oklahoma
Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Roehl of
Kerrvilie spent a recent Sunday
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lutz
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Lutz last Thursday were Mr and
Mrs Louis E. Lutz and her parents
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bayer of San
Antonio and the Lutz's houseguests
from France, Mr and Mrs. Paul Sipp
The Sipps were houseguests of the
Bayers six years ago when they
visited the United State with a large
group that also came to Medina
County.
Mr and Mrs. Julius Schmidt and
Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt of
Hondo visited their mother, Mrs.
George Schmidt in San Antonio last
Sunday to help her celebrate her 81st
birthday. They took Mrs. Schmidt out
for lunch on this special occasion.
Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs.
Julius Schmidt were Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Schmidt, Eric and Michal of
McAllen.
Jump Rope for Heart
Results of the 1985 Jump Rope for
Heart event are as follows:
Number of Participants: 38; Ele-
mentary collections (grades 4 and 5):
$560.73. Jr. High collections (grades
6-12): $769.33.
Total collections: $1,330.06
Trophies will be awarded to the top
collectors for each school. Shanna
Moffett collected $200 45 for the
Elementary trophy and Tara Mund
collected $148.80 for the Jr. High
trophy.
The team that collected the most
money will be awarded iron-on
patches and ceramic mugs The
winning team collected $410.33 and
its members are Tara Mund, Amy
Wolff, Stacey Schlortt, Charlie Lang-
feld, Travis Attaway, and Hunter
Buesher
Each participant who turned in
money received a jump rope, compli-
ments of the American Heart
Association. Other prizes earned,
such as T-shirts, caps, and visors, will
be sent to DHanis and distributed
when they arrive.
This is the second year the Jump
Rope for Heart event has been held in
D’Hanis. Those of you who have
participated (financially or physically)
in the program should be proud of
yourselves and the contribution you
have made Your efforts will go
toward research concerning problems
of the heart, and ultimately, toward
the saving of lives
